Delete sandbox
Please delete all old versions of Sandbox (delete it and restore the latest version). The version history contains copyright violations, pornographic texts which describe actions of persons under 14 (which may be illegal in your country), personal data and perhaps other content that qualifies for deletion. On the other side, the old content of the Sandbox isn't really needed. Example: copyvio from here (other example links may be provided on request per Email, I don't want to make them public).
I didn't start a regular request for deletion (a) because I only want old versions to be deleted and (b) the content of Sandbox changes often and the request for deletion would be removed by users testing on the page. Regards, --Church of emacs 07:05, 28 January 2010 (UTC)

- Not done,
$wgGroupPermissions
is a redirect toManual:$wgGroupPermissions
so that it goes to it when you search it, Although I don't overly like these redirects (we should just fix the search) it isn't doing any harm. Peachey88 22:24, 22 September 2011 (UTC)
User deletion? iantresman
username: iantresman I want to unify my MediaWiki account with my accounts on the other projects, but I have lost my password, and stupidly did not add my email address. No contributions were made under my account. What do I need to do to get the password reset, or the MediaWiki account deleted, so that I can start again? I believe it is possible to match my IP address with my contributions on Wikipedia. --93.97.21.214 15:42, 18 October 2011 (UTC)
- Done by renaming the local user account so that you can merge the name in with your SUL account. --Skizzerz 06:36, 19 October 2011 (UTC)

Problem with unified login
I normally edit on English Wikipedia as wikipedia:en:User:Bazonka. I have been trying to set up a unified login account for Bazonka, but I'm unable to do this fully because my Bazonka account here at Mediawiki is inaccessible. I don't know what the password is, and there is no email address associated with it, so the Password Reset functionality doesn't help.
I had the same problem with my account at Commons. A bureaucrat helpfully renamed my unusable Bazonka account so that a new Bazonka account could be created (see here). Can the same be done to my account at Mediawiki please?
If you need proof that I am the real Bazonka, then you should be able to email me via my English Wikipedia account. Thanks, Bazonka 91.125.92.179 11:01, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi. The account was likely registered in past by someone else and now it was renamed in order to let you unify it. You can login to mediawiki.org using your central account now. Petrb (talk) 13:49, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Thanks very much. Bazonka (talk) 14:20, 16 March 2012 (UTC)
- Actually that's not possible, Petrb. The account was created automatically according to the logs, and therefore must be unified. Me and other users have had the same problem. See bugzilla:29234#c4. --Krenair (talk • contribs) 20:00, 21 March 2012 (UTC)
- Hi, I don't think it's impossible since it solved the issue? I already renamed previous holder of this name, and as you can see in reply, it worked Petrb (talk) 09:59, 23 March 2012 (UTC)
- What I meant was that if an account was created automatically it cannot possibly have been done by anyone but whoever was logged in with the global account. I didn't mean that fixing it was impossible. --Krenair (talk • contribs) 17:30, 25 March 2012 (UTC)
- But this account was not created automatically, you opened wrong logs. The account was renamed, so if you want to see the reason for creation of original account, you need to open logs of renamed account. Petrb (talk) 05:40, 26 March 2012 (UTC)

New gadget: Dot's syntax highlighter
Hi, I'm trying to get meta:User:Remember the dot/Syntax highlighter made into a gadget for various projects. ResourceLoader/Migration guide (users)#Keep gadgets central says that gadgets like this should be hosted on mediawiki.org. So, I'd like to ask that:
- MediaWiki:Gadget-DotsSyntaxHighlighter.js be created with the minified contents of meta:User:Remember the dot/Syntax highlighter.js:

- I've done #2, though you could've done it yourself. For #1, can we please not use minified JS? --Krenair (talk • contribs) 21:51, 25 November 2012 (UTC)
- I didn't want to move the documentation before the source code was moved, but I suppose it doesn't really matter. I provided minified code because I don't know of any other way to minify the script than to minify it manually. Gadgets hosted locally and used locally are minified through the local ResourceLoader, but this is not the case when loading a gadget cross-wiki. The regular source code will still be available (I'll move it here also) no matter what. —Remember the dot (talk) 22:00, 25 November 2012 (UTC)

Deletion request #2 - this time its serious....
Hello, I also don't know whether this is the best place to ask, but please would you delete this page? It is deprecated and it's information duplicated and expanded upon here. Thanks in advance.
Might I also be made an administrator, or at least someone with permission to delete pages I have created to avoid needing to bother you guys in future? I would understand if you decline this second element of my request. :)
- Note: The best place to ask is on that particular wiki. This wiki is for the documentation of the MediaWiki software, and any requests here can and will only affect pages on the mediawiki.org domain. If you have a problem with another wiki, you need to ask there. Since I see the domain for that wiki ends in ".local" either it is a company/intranet wiki or a wiki you installed locally for testing. Either way, see Help:Deleting a page for more information on how to delete pages. --Skizzerz 14:32, 24 April 2014 (UTC)
- Not done - As said above, this wiki is for documentation of the MediaWiki software. We cannot delete pages on that wiki since we are not local administrators there. As it is on a
.local
domain name, we cannot access that wiki. You should navigate to Special:ListAdmins on that wiki and request one of them to delete it. --GeorgeBarnick (talk) 19:10, 24 April 2014 (UTC)

- I think the latter. Thanks in advance. --Shirayuki (talk) 21:16, 30 May 2014 (UTC)
- Translation pages can't be protected because they can't be edited (only Special:Translate can edit them). If vandalism is serious, we could recursively protect all translation unit pages. --Nemo 05:20, 31 May 2014 (UTC)

Change Abuse filter block lengths to 3 months for IPs only
I tried enabling automatic blocking for Special:AbuseFilter/28 but I forgot that this wiki hasn't configured $wgAbuseFilterAnonBlockDuration to be a finite duration yet. I think this would require at least some form of consensus. I am proposing 3 months because that is what I usually use for blocks of those spambots.--Jasper Deng (talk) 18:41, 22 August 2014 (UTC)
- 3 months is definitely better than infinite. There's quite a huge gap however from this and, say, the 24 hours of autoblock; you may want to consider if few weeks actually suffice, for such IPs (are they even static?). If you think 3 months is best, let's go for it for now. --Nemo 09:16, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
- Personally I think 1 month should be all that's necessary on automatic blocks. If an IP is seen to get automatically blocked more than once, a manual, longer block can be implemented. 3 months is just a bit long as far as automatic blocks go in my opinion. Whatever works best for everyone else is fine for me though. --GeorgeBarnick (talk) 18:26, 23 August 2014 (UTC)
- Support either 3 months or 1 month (don't care which). I had this same idea myself before I even saw this here. Jackmcbarn (talk) 01:50, 1 September 2014 (UTC)
- I've opened bugzilla:70828. Jackmcbarn (talk) 15:04, 14 September 2014 (UTC)
- Done by Reedy. Jackmcbarn (talk) 19:29, 16 September 2014 (UTC)
- We now have an example of a block to a "normal" IP which almost 3 months later blocked a good faith user: Special:AbuseFilter/24. Perhaps we should reduce to 1 month, as most people above seemed to be content with? Or we need to make sure that blocking filters don't block home/consumer dynamic IPs. --Nemo 07:24, 23 February 2015 (UTC)

This page is a (partially) translated version of Manual:Pywikibot/interwiki.py. Could you import it as Manual:Pywikibot/interwiki.py/fr? We don't need it anymore on Wikipedia, but it could still be useful for other projects. Thanks, Orlodrim (talk) 01:19, 1 November 2014 (UTC)
- @Brion VIBBER, Legoktm, MZMcBride, Nemo bis, Skizzerz, and VasilievVV: Could one of you do this? Manual:Pywikibot/interwiki.py doesn't use the Translate extension so this shouldn't really be a problem, afaics. Thanks, --Glaisher (talk) 07:54, 17 November 2014 (UTC)
- Hi Orlodrim. Here you go: Manual:Pywikibot/interwiki.py/fr. I only sort of fucked it up, nothing a quick page move couldn't fix... I've done much worse with the import tool. :-) Let me know if you wanted templates. (Thanks for the ping, Glaisher!) --MZMcBride (talk) 23:43, 17 November 2014 (UTC)

Remove/reduce protection in How to contribute/Translations
It isn't possible to update and create new translations to the page. Thanks, Eran (talk) 20:08, 2 March 2015 (UTC)
- Sorry, the protection reason seems to be still actual, maybe @Nemo bis: can revisit this. (Protected "How to contribute/Translations": Excessive vandalism: High visibility page linked from the footer of all Wikimedia projects, https://www.mediawiki.org/?diff=next&oldid=1018668 (how to semiprotect recursively?), and a cascading protection is nly possible for full (only-admin) protection. The protection will expire 31 May 2015. --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 07:27, 3 March 2015 (UTC)

Request block of User:Eye Compagny
Please block Special:Contributions/Eye Compagny for vandalism (see contributions) and unwanted username. It is a misspelling of a Dutch company called Eye Company. After being blocked on the Dutch Wikipedia for unwanted username, the user started vandalising here. After a short while the user stopped. However I don't think the user is planning on doing anything helpful for this project. Mbch331 (talk) 14:13, 5 March 2015 (UTC)

- Sorry, made a small typo. It's Eye compagny (with a small c instead of capital C). Mbch331 (talk) 15:06, 5 March 2015 (UTC)
Please remember to watch this log: LQT vandalism is not visible in contributions and has no rollback/undo button. When you see LQT vandalism by a user or IP, remember to check both their contributions and logs. Should we ad monitoring of this log to some IRC channel? --Nemo 11:03, 11 March 2015 (UTC)
- Resolved now that there are no more LQT threads. Nemo 22:58, 30 October 2015 (UTC)
Delete "coder" and "svnadmins" group
As Extension:CodeReview was migrated, coders and SVN admins have no rights related to CodeReview, though coders still have autopatrol right. Purpose to move all coders to "autoreview" user group, and then delete these two groups from MediaWiki.org.--GZWDer (talk) 11:19, 25 May 2015 (UTC)
- Hi GZWDer. I think the "coder" user group is now gone from this wiki. "SVN admins" still exists. Please file a task in Phabricator to remove that user group. --MZMcBride (talk) 13:07, 17 August 2015 (UTC)
Import a few b:en:User:Ivan Shmakov, b:ru:User:Ivan Shmakov subpages
Unless I be mistaken, the documentation for MediaWiki-related software is well within the scope of this wiki. Among such packages I was loosely working on last year (and hopefully will get back to somewhat later) are:
- MediaWiki-API2 – a fork of the MediaWiki-API MediaWiki API interface for Perl;
- a few command-line tools (including
mwlist
andmwpatch
) employing this interface.
I have a couple of reasons to prefer this wiki rather than Wikibooks for working on the documentation for these packages. (One of the reasons being, obviously, Extension:Translate.) If it indeed fits the scope of the project, could someone please import the respective subpages (see below) from English Wikibooks into my “user space” here? (I will then request removal of these pages from the former location.)
- b:en:Special:PrefixIndex/User:Ivan Shmakov/MediaWiki-API2 CPAN distribution
- b:en:Special:PrefixIndex/User:Ivan Shmakov/Command-line MediaWiki tools
One another package of such a kind is MW – a modular MediaWiki interface for GNU Emacs, whose documentation in Russian is now available from b:ru:Участник:Ivan Shmakov/MediaWiki как система управления редакциями. Curiously, does it make sense to move it here as well, or will it be, in essence, necessary to start this page anew in order to utilize Extension:Translate?
Anything else I should consider?
Thanks in advance.

Remove adminship from old WMF staff accounts

Broken Abuse Filter
Hi guys, can you please have a look at the AbuseFilter and fix the wrong blocks, which it is making? E.g. see the block of my IP 88.130... from today (December 2nd), 13:30 o'clock. I was answering a support request on the Support Desk and in the answer I wanted to include a link to an older Support Topic. The topic name is one of these random numbers. As soon as I try to point to a topic, it incorrectly blocks me, telling me, I would be a spam bot doing a mass attack. It would be great, if this broken spam filter could be fixed, so that it at least properly allows mediawiki.org links again. Cheers! Jörg --88.130.119.246 22:54, 2 December 2015 (UTC)
- Internal links inside mediawiki.org also are not working correctly. This misconfiguration currently prevents me from helping users at the Support Desk. --88.130.73.233 15:45, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hello! Thanks for mentioning the problem here, and sorry for any inconvenience :( I changed the filter to not block users anymore and the filter rules should be more specific when identifying the real spam and let you post links :) Please give me some feedback, if you still have problems :) Best! --Florianschmidtwelzow (talk) 16:45, 4 December 2015 (UTC)
- Hi Florian,
- it is better now, but the problem is not yet solved.
- Links to Flow topics and internal links with twice two square brackets seem to be working correctly now.
- What is not working yet, are external links to mediawiki.org. E.g. a link to api.php or a link to the history function with an old revision or so. --88.130.73.233 19:00, 4 December 2015 (UTC)

- @MarcoAurelio: Redlink talkpages are flow by default. If you want to keep that page as a wikitext page, the easiest solution is to either add some content (e.g. {{Archive }}) or redirect it back to your existing talkpage. Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 19:09, 11 July 2017 (UTC)

Please delete Talk:Technical Collaboration Guideline/Vision to make space for move from the actual talk page, which was moved and made orphan without reason (the new talk page is empty). Users expect to be able to find and follow comments to a page but outside the page itself in the standard ways (clicking the "Talk" tab, watchlisting the subject page) but the moving user declined to consider solutions for that problem. Nemo 08:30, 31 May 2016 (UTC)

Botflag for User:Translation Notification Bot
This bot has the potential to add a bunch of messages to Special:RecentChanges when notifying users about translations. It in fact already has, when MediaWiki 1.29 was released. As it is part of the Translate extension and can be triggered by Translation Administrators by checking a box after marking a page for translation wouldn't it be better to have this bot flagged? —Mainframe98 talk 14:02, 11 August 2017 (UTC)

Redirect override tool not working
As seen from my account logs, I've been moving the pages for early MediaWiki versions into their own pages rather than subpages of the Release notes pages. For the first two moves, MediaWiki 1.1 and MediaWiki 1.2, I was able to successfully delete the existing redirect and move the page to the new name with ease. However, for some reason, on MediaWiki 1.3 and up, I can no longer do this. Attempting to move Release notes/1.3 to MediaWiki 1.3 and delete the existing redirect at MediaWiki 1.3 results in an error saying that I do not have permission to do such. I've copy-pasted MediaWiki 1.3 and I need an admin to histmerge, but before copy-pasting all the other versions from 1.4 and up, I was wondering if someone would know what the problem here is. Thanks. Nestor Lozano (talk) 14:17, 14 August 2017 (UTC)
- The moves are incorrect: Release notes are still published under that title, see for instance Release notes/1.29 vs. MediaWiki 1.29. Please revert. --Nemo 16:44, 14 August 2017 (UTC)

Deletion of subpages
Hello. I've archived Extension:Ads. Please delete Special:PrefixIndex/Extension:Ads/ as the template from Extension:Ads will display in the user language already. Thanks. —MarcoAurelio (talk) 19:49, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
- @MarcoAurelio: Hey there. I'm not sure blanking the extension's page is the right approach here – don't we normally just mark it as unsupported? Happy to delete them all but can you link to equivalent examples? Don't want to set a new precedent without discussion. :-)
- BTW, I think these kind of items should go on Project:Current issues – it's not a user rights request or other +bureaucrat task request, just a regular +sysop (well, +translateadmin) action thing. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 00:16, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
- Done but by mere redirecting now that the page was removed from translation. Replacing content with the notice is an established practice for archived extensions, but no need to delete history. Nemo 06:27, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
- Works for me. Thanks @Nemo bis and Jdforrester (WMF) for your help. I'll keep doing that. Regards, —MarcoAurelio (talk) 11:33, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
Non-MW related manual talk pages
On manual talk pages which are not directly related to mediawiki, the MediaWiki:Editnotice-101 message which appear while editing should be replaced with another message(s). There are many Pywikibot manual talk pages; try to edit one of them, and you will see how irrelevant are the links in that message. --XXN (talk) 09:19, 14 May 2017 (UTC)
- @XXN: Perhaps non-MediaWiki content shouldn't be in that namespace – would it be better to put pywikibot items in their own namespace? Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 00:26, 11 September 2017 (UTC)
Testing search in deleted pages archive
Hello,
During Wikimedia Hackathon 2016, the Discovery team worked on one of the items on the 2015 community wishlist, namely enabling searching the archive of deleted pages. Now we are ready to deploy this capability in production, and are asking admins of select wikis to test-drive this feature. After accommodating any feedback from this trial, we plan to deploy it on all wikis and enable it by default.
To test it on your wiki, please go to the Special:Undelete
page, and add &fuzzy=1
to the URL, like this: https://test.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special%3AUndelete&fuzzy=1. Then search for the pages you're interested in. The results should show more results than before, due to using ElasticSearch indexing (via the CirrusSearch extension). If you find anything that is not right with the results, or that you want to be changed, please comment.
Please note that since Special:Undelete is an admin-only feature, this search capability is also only accessible to admins. CKoerner (WMF) (talk) 19:02, 6 June 2017 (UTC)
I think, it's dormanted, it's just possible to use [4] which derived from Manual:Configuration settings/zh, I'm sorry that I can't place {{Delete }} template because of "Translate in zh please." warning. --Liuxinyu970226 (talk) 01:46, 29 October 2017 (UTC)

Now I know: It wasn't a hacker, it was the filter fuzzy from the URL. But why was it pasted?

I wish to support translating details related to the Affiliate-selected Board seats/Resolution 2019, as this is a great new passage we are taking, and my request may include:
- Although still a draft, Affiliate-selected Board seats/2019/Call for Candidates could be translated sooner, as candidates are called for between 15 to 30 April. Or kindly point to versions later than this one, if any other guideline affiliates can refere to.
- the voting system: affiliates needs to decide delegates who will be "...Voting for nominees by Affiliates from 8 to 31 May."
- Optional, but "News" section in Aff Com could be updated for transparency reasons as: Reviewing and screening by the community from 1 to 7 May.

Require formal RfA/RfB for applications
Yes, I'm aware of the fact that this website is controlled by the developers, but I think some formal record of why the user was given adminship should be needed. Just saying "trusted user" is quite generic. This problem cropped up when a MediaWiki sysop was attempting to become a steward - upon some digging, it turned out that the user never submitted an RfA and was just, quoting a user, "handled out by trust by a crat". In my opinion, this does not speak well for this site. Hence my proposal is simple: require that every user, developer or not, formally request adminship here. This is the case for every other Wikimedia site, and I am not convinced that this site needs to follow differently (even if it's not a "content site").
This does not mean that consensus should be obtained; unlike other sites I can see it reasonable for the developers to accept an application with no support votes, but I feel that record needs to be there. Leaderboard (talk) 10:37, 10 February 2021 (UTC)
- ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I just don't see this being all that big of a deal. Per the box at the top of the page, all new requests for +sysop should come here unless the user is already a well-established developer. In practice, very few recent flags to +sysop have happened without an associated subpage here, so the change you're requesting is already de facto in effect (last one I can find was in April 2020). I'm not opposed to requiring it for everyone, but I feel that mountains are being made of molehills here. --Skizzerz 17:55, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- I likewise don't see the point of this. * Pppery * it has begun 18:45, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- All that adminship requires is trust, and if someone is already trusted I don't see the point of extra bureaucracy. Having a wiki page is really no extra benefit than a log entry, it's just more work. And to be honest, I don't like dealing with spam and vandalism, but there are people who do enjoy cleaning that stuff up, and I am happy to do whatever it takes to empower them so I can get back to doing the stuff I enjoy. I'm also getting really tired of the trope that "mediawiki.org is not a content wiki" - please, there's a ton of content on this wiki. We too are equal partners in the movement for free knowledge. Legoktm (talk) 22:34, 13 February 2021 (UTC)
- Hi @Legoktm: I agree that it's not right that MediaWiki is frequently considered as a "non-content" wiki. However, in every other wiki (except the test ones), there is no provision for someone to get adminship just by requesting a bureaucrat. This is true even for inactive wikis (as is often the case with very small wikis); users are required to post a RfA in a village pump or similar for a week. I do not see how MediaWiki should be any different.
- Additionally, "Having a wiki page is really no extra benefit than a log entry" - this is not quite true. The reason is that a log entry gives barely any information on why that person was given adminship. In Charitwo's case, all the log said was "trusted user". That is no better than giving no detail at all. Leaderboard (talk) 15:18, 14 February 2021 (UTC)
- Most RfA processes on large wikis are dysfunctional, I don't think looking to them for comparison is a good idea. Adminship here still is "no big deal" and I think we want to keep it that way. Ultimately I think we practice meatball:SoftSecurity rather well for the most part. Legoktm (talk) 17:22, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- "Adminship here still is "no big deal"" - unfortunately, that's part of the reason the average Steward election voter has a (faulty) impression of MediaWiki as a non-content wiki (In theory I agree with you, not in practice however). Leaderboard (talk) 17:55, 16 February 2021 (UTC)
- I think the perception has far more to do with this wiki's intended audience. We're aimed primarily at technical users who are running their own wikis, with a smattering of content for wiki editors as well. Because this isn't for a "general" audience, we get treated as a second-class citizen. Having an informal RfA process has largely nothing to do with this. Lots of the smaller "content wikis" have an informal RfA process as well.
- Besides, we shouldn't have to adjust what we're doing just to please some arbitrary people on some other wiki. If there was a benefit for this wiki to have every rights flagging go onto a subpage here, then make the case for that. Given that the vast majority of them will be closed as complete without comment, I don't really see the difference between saying "trusted user" and flagging someone without a page vs saying "trusted user" and flagging someone with a page where all they say is "I'm a developer and I want sysop." In short, I think you're raising this for the wrong reasons and it is therefore not very productive to pursue this. --Skizzerz 16:56, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

- This page already serves as this wiki's RfA/RfB process, and in the time I've been observing it (a couple years or so) it seems to be working just fine. I'd be okay with changing things so any non-developers requesting adminship are required to use this page, but requiring developers to do so just seems like pointless bureaucracy - they've already been entrusted with commit rights; what, exactly, would a community vetting process accomplish that the developer vetting process didn't? 「ディノ奴千?!」☎ Dinoguy1000 11:43, 16 February 2021 (UTC)

- The developer community interacts on more than just this wiki. We also have Gerrit and Phabricator, for example. When I flag someone, I evaluate across all 3 for trustworthiness or to determine if they qualify for the "devs are entitled to sysop" rule. Catering to users of other wikis who are digging into why someone is flagged here is not a consideration for me whatsoever, and I have no plans to change that. --Skizzerz 16:56, 17 February 2021 (UTC)

- I don't think thats really needed, this wiki isn't as big as many of the others with such groups (and even enwiki doesn't have one) --DannyS712 (talk) 15:57, 20 January 2022 (UTC)
- Agreed this is not necessary. * Pppery * it has begun 21:37, 20 January 2022 (UTC)

The Africa Wikimedia Developers Project was renamed to African Wikimedia Technical Community in March,2022, so can someone move the page (and leave a redirect behind)? Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 15:18, 17 August 2022 (UTC)
- I moved this from Project:Requests/OtherRequests, which is the wrong place. Then I tried to implement it, but it turn out Africa Wikimedia Developers Project has more than 500 associated translations so a sysadmin has to get involved. - Africa Wikimedia Technical Community is written in the logo, so the page should’ve matched that. Tropicalkitty (talk) 08:33, 28 August 2022 (UTC)
- @Joris Darlington Quarshie: Thoughts on the above rename suggestion? * Pppery * it has begun 14:14, 5 September 2022 (UTC)
- @Pppery @TropicalkittyMy apologies, Yes since it states in the logo (Africa Wikimedia Technical Community) .I think that will be the best name to use for the page. So if we can removed the n letter and make it just Africa. That will be the best. Joris Darlington Quarshie (talk) 22:30, 5 September 2022 (UTC)

Update for the main page
CONTENT MOVED TO Topic:Xsj63zutqj5gyt48 Terasail 01:07, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- It feels utterly stupid to me that we have to add special-case code for Chinese for the generic pattern "show a page in the user language". But whatever. * Pppery * it has begun 01:39, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- I copied and pasted the content to there, I removed it here to avoid any confusion. This may need archiving or can be completely removed depending on what is done here. Terasail 01:50, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
Delete Developer hub/uk
Please delete the translation page, there is no obvious place for me to place the deletion template that would not be confusing. Reason: machine translation (unchanged low quality Apertium translations). --Base (talk) 02:44, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Base: , Done, but you should be able to do this yourself. Leaderboard (talk) 07:31, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- Thanks. Oh, indeed, I have forgotten that the local policy allows stews to act here freely, good to know. --Base (talk) 08:25, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
Move this page to Project:User rights requests
This page is primarily used for user rights requests and many discussions here, like the above thread, really would fit better at Project:Village pump. Hopefully renaming would clarify the scope and reduce confusion. * Pppery * it has begun 01:39, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- I support this, it is an ambiguous title with this "Other requests" section implying any request which isn't a permission request. As someone who just posted in the incorrect place, if Project:Village Pump is the correct place for these requests, then the title should be updated to meet the scope of the page. Terasail 01:53, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Support renaming --Ameisenigel (talk) 15:47, 30 October 2023 (UTC)
- Note that I just created the Project:Requests for permissions redirect before reading this. 𝟙𝟤𝟯𝟺𝐪𝑤𝒆𝓇𝟷𝟮𝟥𝟜𝓺𝔴𝕖𝖗𝟰 (𝗍𝗮𝘭𝙠) 16:37, 31 October 2023 (UTC)
- Good idea. But it should be moved to Project:Requests for permissions instead which is more accurate. – Ammarpad (talk) 12:09, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support renaming in general to reduce confusion. Not sure how we should handle the local requests for comments though. Tropicalkitty (talk) 23:28, 1 November 2023 (UTC)
- Declare the process defunct through lack of use. * Pppery * it has begun 01:04, 2 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support moving #Requests_for_permissions, preferably to Project:Requests for permissions. We can keep this page as a Request directory and a place for handling other requests. 94rain Talk 04:26, 30 November 2023 (UTC)
- Support moving to Project:Requests for permissions. Other types of requests can go to the village pump. Leaderboard (talk) 09:43, 23 December 2023 (UTC)
- Leaderboard, is there a version of Village pump that does not use Flow? --Base (talk) 02:44, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- @Base: Not at the moment, but (as you can see if you go to the village pump), there are active discussions on retiring Flow in MediaWiki. Leaderboard (talk) 07:30, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- In practice, Village pump is more about general discussions about site policies etc. that usually do not need admin attention. We probably still need a separate requests page for the latter. It's a bit wired that this discussion is happening here instead of Village Pump, and I saw an edit request posted on Village pump... 94rain Talk 07:52, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- The VP gets so little traffic that I don't really see a point in having a separate page for things that need admin action. Taavi (talk!) 09:41, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- That's true. We don't really have much on-wiki matters to discuss. I was thinking having separate pages will make it more convenient for future references. If no one thinks it's necessary, I am fine with just having one Village pump. --94rain Talk 05:41, 1 January 2024 (UTC)
- Agreed. Base's request would have been fine at Project:Village pump. * Pppery * it has begun 05:10, 1 January 2024 (UTC)

- Leaderboard, is there a version of Village pump that does not use Flow? --Base (talk) 02:44, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- As I've just needed to use this page for a non-permissions request, I Oppose, unless a separate administrators noticeboard will be created. --Base (talk) 02:44, 30 December 2023 (UTC)
- Oppose per Base. Permissions are not the only thing that need to be requested.--Jasper Deng (talk) 21:36, 19 January 2024 (UTC)
- And why can't those other things be requested at Project:Village pump instead? Neither you nor Base have actually answered that. It's currently extremely unclear what goes where, and the archives show this page is almost completely disused except for permission requests. * Pppery * it has begun 00:42, 20 January 2024 (UTC)
- They can, but for example I don't really follow the village pump, while I do check Project:Requests every now and then in case there's some pending request I can handle. Just let people decide by themselves. Nemo 20:57, 2 March 2024 (UTC)

- (TODO) OK, given the external demand for us to have a non-Structured Discussions venue for stewards, I've re-created Project:Administrators' noticeboard with a note explaining that it's a secondary venue, so this move is now good to go.
