Could you please look at Talk pages project/replying/prototype testing#Reply tool version 2.0, try it out, and let me know what happens? I want to make sure that the directions work before sharing this link more widely.

Hi Sherry, hope you're well and coping with this bizarre new world.

I did "Find the section heading, "How can we make this article better?" but located two different headings with that name.

I tried pushing the visual part a bit by trying to add RTL Language text and that didn't seem to work out, but then I'm a dumb monolingual Brit who doesn't know any RTL languages and has no idea how to type RTL. :)

I figured to ping someone I could type @ followed by their name, or {{ and the Ping template. Speaking of which there doesn't appear to be a UI for template use but you can trigger it by typing {{ anyway.

Trying to change the ping to your username with the space was hard until I realised I should click the suggestion in the UI instead of trying to type it to the end.

Other than the above, which is probably partially a result of me knowing too many ways to break things, it went well.

Thanks, Alex. I asked you specifically because you know more than most people. I really appreciate it.

They've kept most (all? I'm not sure) of the keyboard shortcuts for the visual editor, which I'll find handy. I want them in the wikitext mode, too (at least for links).

The world on my side of the ocean feels a little bizarre right now. I've been thinking about doubling times: We closed everything down because there were X cases in the area and that was terribly risky, right? And now there are 2X, and in a while there will be 4X, and that is when we want to tell people that it's okay to re-open their shops and go back to work and school? If X was bad (and I think it was), then why isn't the prospect of 8X and 16X giving them nightmares?

What's the key sequence you were expecting would work here @Krena<space> or something?

@Whatamidoing (WMF): yeah... I don't feel strongly about it, it just seems a little odd to not have the UI for some things but keep the keyboard shortcuts for it.

Also, wow, exponentially increasing cases sounds scary, take care.

@ESanders (WMF): Hey Ed, so I think I was trying @Whatamidoing (WMF) and assumed that once I got to the end of the username (which the suggestions recognised) it'd automatically convert the text into a ping, but this didn't work and I had to click the suggestion. I think at first I assumed this was due to the presence of the space messing things up or something, but actually I think it happens with all usernames and that's just how it's supposed to work?

I guess one thing is if you begin to type the name, you'll see suggestions with opportunities to click (or hit enter) which will turn the text into a ping, but if you keep typing and type the full username, the suggestions disappear and you can't turn it into a ping anymore.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

I think normally you just ask someone with existing access to add you and they decide it based on need, trust, etc.

In this case I expect to request that task be made public soon though.

Would you be willing to let me see it? I'd like to know if I need to avoid anything in my scripting...

I don't think anyone extra needs to be added there right now, there's nothing new in there. You can probably figure out what was wrong based on the edit.
