services/similar-users-private gmodena Merge review Would it be possible to setup a private repo to store some (relatively early stage) research artifacts & data analysis code? By private I mean “no one but me and a couple of collaborators can read and push to it. The repo will not contain PII (or any data at all); The use case would be to carry out analysis, whose results we do not necessarily want to make public right away (e.g. work on WIPs/drafts). Gmodena (WMF) --GModena (WMF) (talk) 10:45, 6 January 2021 (UTC)[reply] @GModena (WMF): Allowing only a few people to push is of course fine, but all repos on gerrit are public and get for example replicated to GitHub. I know nothing about the data for this repo, but if the data does not contain PII ... maybe we do not need to hide it and can have it in the open?

If it's ok to have the data publicly available, let me know and I'll happily create the repo for you. If the data needs to be kept private, I think our Gerrit is probably not the best place to keep it. --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 14:15, 8 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Thomas-topway-it: By „mirror”, do you mean „One-time import of the code and then the development will continue on Gerrit” or do you mean „Development will stay on GitHub and changes there should automatically be picked up by Gerrit”? The former would work, but we (currently) cannot do the latter :-/ --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 07:10, 4 February 2021 (UTC)[reply]

wmf-jvm-utils DCausse Merge review Lib to share java/scala utilities useful in the WMF infra (will be used by the WMF Search Platform and Data Engineering Teams). DCausse (WMF) (talk) 13:03, 8 April 2021 (UTC)[reply] @DCausse (WMF): Sorry for the delay. I was thinking where this would fit best in our Gerrit hierarchy. Would it fit under operations/software as for example in operations/software/jvm-utils? It seems that operations/software would match the purpose and it would align with the already existing operations/software/swift-utils. What do you think? --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 07:12, 12 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@QChrisNonWMF: I think operations/software is more for tools and binaries we deploy to production, here it's more a project to develop java/scala components used by multiple teams. Closest I found did not have any hierarchy (e.g. wikimedia-event-utilities, wmf-utils). In the past we used a hierarchy based on the team name (e.g. wikimedia/discovery but this one is supposed to be cross team, perhaps something like: jvm/wmf-jvm-utils? DCausse (WMF) (talk) 07:52, 13 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@DCausse (WMF): Mhmm. Seeing wikimedia-event-utilities and wmf-utils and with GitLab around the corner, I guess an argument for at least putting it underneath wikimedia is probably moot; so I created it as top-level project as initially requested :-) --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 08:41, 14 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]

operations/software/bernard Jcrespo, Marostegui Merge review Please create the "bernard" project under operations/software. This will be a similar repo like operations/software/tendril, a web frontend for a wikimedia sysadmin tool (operations/software/wmfbackups) for backup status monitoring. operations/software/elasticsearch-madvise ryankemper, ebernhardson, legoktm Merge review Probably falls under one of the search ones. please import from https://gitlab.com/legoktm/es-thingy, thanks! --Legoktm (talk) 17:27, 2 July 2021 (UTC)[reply] @Legoktm: I see that the name .../elasticsearch-madvise aligns with the already existing .../elasticsearch-tool repo, which is of course great. But it seems .../elasticsearch-tool is empty and unused.

On the other hand, we also have .../elasticsearch/plugins (/ instead of - between elasticsearch and plugins), which is populated and still saw a few commits in the past months. So I wondered if that latter repo would be a better template for the name of the new repo? That would make it .../elasticsearch/madvise (/ instead of - before madvise).

I think both names would be ok. I just wanted to make sure we don't accidentally follow a stale repo's lead.

Which one would you prefer, operations/software/elasticsearch-madvise or operations/software/elasticsearch/madvise? --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 05:45, 4 July 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki2Reveal LDAP Bert Niehaus Merge review (preferred) Phabricator project name Wiki2Reveal, see creating new project to request a new one within Gerrit but the prototype exists already on Github see https://github.com/niebert/Wiki2Reveal and it can be used with https://niebert.github.io/Wiki2Reveal ). importing the Wiki2Reveal Project on Github into Gerrit because it is a project for Wikiversity learning resources and currently implemented as proof of concept - the Wiki2Reveal or v:de:Kurs:Topologische_Invertierbarkeitskriterien --Bert Niehaus (talk) 15:07, 2 August 2021 (UTC)[reply] Wiki2Reveal @QChrisNonWMF: is a tool to convert the Wikiversity article into a RevealJS presentation for using in lectures and educational scenarios. Currently is fetches the Wiki source and converts it on the client side. A more sound application might be using Parsoid and converting the MediaWiki source of an article into a RevealJS presentation. Then the client side conversion into Reveal HTML is used. If users of Wikiversity find that option as useful they can use that. Wiki2Reveal can operate on MediaWiki sources like Wikiversity and Wikipedia, but the sections in Wikipedia are designed as encyclopedic articles and thus the section and subsection in a Wikipedia article contain to much content that does not fit on a single slide. So Wiki2Reveal might be reimplemented as extension using Parsoid, with the requirement that it is regarded as useful tool by the community. I am fine if that is hosted on Wikimedia's Toolforge. If that is hosted from a Wikimedia server I would redefine the URL so that the access an update can be monitored and updated by the MediaWiki developers. My main intension to request for a repository was to place the GitHub source in version control system that can be accessed by MediaWiki developers. Wiki2Reveal is a tool designed for using with Wikiversity lecture as open educational resources. I used Wiki2Reveal with my lectures on GitHub as a proof of concept - I would prefer to use content and tools in open MediaWiki ecosystem. But did you also get a developer account at https://wikitech.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:CreateAccount  ? If so, what's your username there? (So I can get you write access to the repo) --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 18:06, 8 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]
@QChrisNonWMF: Did not register so far, because I did not know if the Wiki community regards Wiki2Reveal as useful. Thank you very much for creating the repository. Could you please sign in to Gerrit one time? --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 06:46, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

@Bert Niehaus: Thanks! I've found your account now in Gerrit and just gave you access to labs/tools/Wiki2Reveal --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 05:59, 16 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki2Reveal needs a webserver to be provide the HTML5 app for converting the Wikiversity source into the RevealJS presentation. Currently is the URL https://niebert.github.io/Wiki2Reveal/wiki2reveal.html . What would be final URL for deployment of Wiki2Reveal so that the Wikiversity learning resources can be adapted according to that URL or would you recommend to host the Wiki2Reveal tool on the GitHub webserver within the repo https://github.com/wikimedia/labs-tools-Wiki2Reveal just like I did that on https://github.com/niebert/Wiki2Reveal ? --Bert Niehaus (talk) 13:26, 10 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

In order to run the code on Wikimedia servers, the easiest path would be to create a new Toolforge tool. If you register for example wiki2reveal and set up things accordingly, your code will be available at https://wiki2reveal.toolforge.org/ --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 06:46, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

mediawiki/extensions/MobileFrontendContentProvider Jdlrobson Merge review #MobileFrontend_Content_Provider Comments The repo already exists at https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki-extensions-MobileFrontendContentProvider please could this be imported to Gerrit and that repo made read only? --Jdlrobson (talk) 20:57, 11 August 2021 (UTC)[reply] @Jdlrobson: Sure, we can certainly import it. But as the GitHub repo has recent commits, it looks like there's still development going on in the repo. Instead of making Gerrit's repo read-only (and hence turning it into a stale copy) ... what about switching that repo's development to Gerrit like most of WMF repos and let Gerrit replicate changes to GitHub? --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 06:57, 13 August 2021 (UTC)[reply]

But the Phabricator ticket you linked refers to a Node/Python service. So just to avoid me creating the repo in the wrong part of Gerrit's repo hierarchy: You really want to mediawiki/extensions/SecurityApi, right?

And also, I'm not to sure what is meant by "mediawiki access to wikimedia/security/security-api/". Do you mean, the mediawiki group should get more rights to wikimedia/security/security-api? If so, what additional rights are needed? --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 22:23, 28 November 2021 (UTC)[reply]

mediawiki/extensions/CampaignEvents Daimona Eaytoy Merge review This extension will be maintained by the Campaigns team. Thanks, --Daimona Eaytoy (talk) 17:54, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply] Yes Done Created as mediawiki/extensions/CampaignEvents

I've created a new "Campaigns Team" group in Gerrit, and added it as repo owner. But of the team members listed on the Wiki page, I could only find Runa in Gerrit. So I added Runa. Once other team members signed in to Gerrit, Runa can add them to the group. Or otherwise, just ping me and I can add them for you. --QChrisNonWMF (talk) 20:48, 6 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
