Template:Lang

edit

Hi - Can you please explain what the purpose of Template:Lang (and related templates) is. I can't see any use for them. For example, various derived templates are used on Template:MediaWiki Introduction/nl, where they create links to the Wikipedia in the specified language. What is the point of this? You can reply here or on my talk page, but if I don't here from you within a week or so I will assume it was just an experiment that didn't work and delete them. --HappyDog 01:19, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

I use it for indicating it is a link to a Dutch page or an English page. I think {{Nl }}, {{De }} and {{Fr }} aren't useful, but I would use (instead of these others) {{En }} and{{Lang }} for what I said. SPQRobin 15:33, 21 May 2007 (UTC)Reply
The only useful place that the template could link to would be to the page in the language mentioned... which the link already does! I have deleted all but {{Lang }}, which I have removed the link from (although imho you might as well put the text in-line and not bother with the template at all). I have updated pages to use this instead of {{En }} or equivalent. --HappyDog 14:16, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply
Ok, thank you. SPQRobin 15:55, 19 November 2007 (UTC)Reply

Special:Interwiki extension infopage

edit

I don't quite get why the <source> tags are inside /* comments */ as it looks quite bad on the extension page: Extension:Special page to work with the interwiki table#SpecialInterwiki.php (plus looks like it isn't going to work if you copypaste the source from there...) --Sayuri 14:20, 13 October 2007 (UTC)Reply

It is good if you want to download it: on Extension:Special page to work with the interwiki table#Installation, I've added a link to the raw version of the /SpecialInterwiki.php subpage, and if you copy or save the page in the extensions directory, then you don't need to change the file anymore. Special:Interwiki extension infopage (2)

edit

Hi Robin,

Could you please change the text of the extension so that on Special:Specialpages it's listed as "Interwiki data" or some such instead of "View and edit interwiki data"? Right now it sorts under "V" rather than the logical "I". Cheers. --kingboyk 17:41, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

The name at Special:Specialpages can only be changed if the title of Special:Interwiki is changed as well, and I'm not sure wheter "Interwiki data" is a good page title. And btw, in 1.13 Special:Specialpages has a new sorting so when 1.13 is released you can upgrade and the alphabetical sorting isn't that important anymore. But, if you really would like to change the title, edit MediaWiki:Interwiki on your wiki (if you're an admin), but again know that the title of Special:Interwiki will change as well. Greetings, SPQRobin 21:09, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Thanks Robin. Sounds like I should just wait for 1.13 then! Cheers --kingboyk 21:13, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply
Yep. And you can change the place of the link by changing Manual:$wgSpecialPageGroups. SPQRobin 21:16, 15 June 2008 (UTC)Reply

LiquidThreads in Main namespace

edit

Is it possible to set LiquidThreads for main namespace instead of talk pages? I know about {{#useliquidthreads:1}}, but I don't want to add it manually, I want LiquidThreads to work in main namespace by default, just like the talk pages. Thank you. --Wayiran 01:51, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

I don't think that is possible, but you can try asking in Extension talk:LiquidThreads. Regards, SPQRobin 14:37, 7 July 2011 (UTC)Reply

Extension:Password_Reset

edit

You added the obsolete box to Extension:Password_Reset. While it is correct that the extension is no longer working, this leaves many users without an option to upgrade to 1.18, since the functionality of the extension (admins reset passwords for internal wikis where no email is known, either because not necessary internally, or because authentication methods like OpenID are used) is not covered by the core functionality. See https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=30636 . Should the notice box be different? It is not obsolete in the sense of "no longer needed", but obsolete in the sense "needed, but made impossible to function". G.Hagedorn 08:48, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

I didn't realise that the extension had functionality which core does not (yet) have. I changed my note on the extension page. (There should really be a solution for this...) SPQRobin 12:17, 16 September 2011 (UTC)Reply

Please confirm

Hello. I saw that you reverted Frigotoni's tagging of Extension:ParserFunctions with the {{Extension code in wiki}}. Can you please confirm for me that the ParserFunctions extension is reviewed by MediaWiki developers. Thank you. Esjs (talk) 16:47, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

The tagging was erroneous; it has its own repository and it's actively maintained.Jasper Deng (talk) 16:53, 26 June 2012 (UTC)Reply
ParserFunctions is used on Wikimedia wikis, it has a repository on Gerrit of which the changes are reviewed before merging. SPQRobin (talk) 15:15, 27 June 2012 (UTC)Reply

Talk:ContentHandler#Language

edit

This might be related to your work on making Translate use more languages as source language and so on? --Nemo 08:53, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

Oh, awesome, I really have to take a look at that, both in general and specifically for language handling. Thanks! SPQRobin (talk) 11:41, 26 August 2012 (UTC)Reply

I've dropped some quick ideas here, I hope someone will join. --Nemo 09:25, 21 October 2012 (UTC)Reply
