This seems a bit heavy handed! If we're aiming to help newbies, why do we have rules that may cause their questions to be removed? Better to correct their errors and help them learn...! --HappyDog 12:58, 18 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

It does not matter how new the users are, we give them clear guidelines as to how to post, what to post, and where to post. We receive around 100 posts a week, and cannot offer optimum help to those who do not follow these guidelines, or any help at all in some cases. Their messages spam the Support Desk, spam we do not need, as we have enough trouble with having users to archive and resolve messages for us. -PatPeter   MediaWiki Support Team 05:34, 28 February 2009 (UTC)Reply

For newcomers the best points of contact are the modern instant massaging servers used by the community, however these are hard to explore without a tedious search or being familiar with the community. To make these forums more accessible I propose to add direct links to the Support desk header in the following form, under "Chat rooms":
