edit- Requested user-rights: Bureaucrat.
There have recently been a few places where being a crat would have been helpful, eg to help with processing Project:Requests/User rights/Removal of inactive bot rights (2) or to close rights requests that have zero chance of succeeding and didn't need to waste community time. It seems like most of the crat duties are being undertaken by just a few users, and the discussion of removing inactive bureaucrats means that the number of crats will better reflect this soon, so I thought I'd offer to help. I'm a mediawiki developer (+2 for mediawiki/*, authoring Extension:GlobalWatchlist) if that helps. I'm happy to answer any questions. Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 22:44, 25 August 2020 (UTC)

- Oppose I'm not convinced there is a need for additional bureaucrats. * Pppery * it has begun 23:23, 25 August 2020 (UTC)
- @Pppery: well what if there are additional crats? It doesn't hurt to be one. Prahlad balaji (talk) 01:28, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Prahlad balaji: Granting user rights is an affirmative action. It should not be done unless there is some need for it to be done. There have been only 18 distinct occasions in 2020 so far in which bureaucrat rights were used (counting deflagging 10 inactive bots over the course of 5 minutes as one use, for example). I can only think of one instance (the deflagging of SamoaBot per its operator's request as part of Project:Requests/User rights/Removal of inactive bot rights (2)) in which a request for bureaucrat actions was not given a timely response in the entire 6 months I've been editing MediaWiki.org, and that one request was not at all urgent. It is thus clear to me that there is no need for additional bureaucrats and therefore granting bureaucrat rights to DannyS712 (or any other user) accomplishes nothing. * Pppery * it has begun 01:40, 3 September 2020 (UTC)
- @Pppery: Ok, thanks for the explanation. I still support though. Prahlad balaji (talk) 06:57, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

- Support If a trusted developer is willing to volunteer for the role, I see no reason to deny that. That said, there really isn't very much workload here that needs crat attention. --Skizzerz 00:15, 26 August 2020 (UTC)
- Weak support I'm not entirely convinced we need more crats but if we do I do support Danny for the role. – Majavah talk · edits 19:05, 28 August 2020 (UTC)
- Strong support This guy is very active, has a lot of experience both here and crosswiki (I mean it when I say it), I fully trust his judgement, and IMHO he is fully mature and experienced enough to become a crat. I dunno why he isn't one already. Best, --Prahlad balaji (talk) 01:10, 3 September 2020 (UTC)

- This has been open for almost a month. Would a bureaucrat be willing to close is? Thanks, --DannyS712 (talk) 01:35, 20 September 2020 (UTC)
