Từ ma thuật là các chuỗi ký tự mà MediaWiki liên kết với một giá trị hoặc một hàm, như thời gian, thông tin web, hoặc tên trang. Trang này chỉ giải thích các từ ma thuật cơ bản; xem Hướng dẫn:Từ ma thuật để hiểu hơn về khía cạnh kỹ thuật.
Có ba loại từ ma thuật cơ bản:
Behavior switches: Những từ này thường là các ký tự viết hoa nằm giữa bốn dấu gạch dưới: __FOO__.
- Biến: Biến là các từ viết hoa nằm trong hai cặp dấu ngoặc nhọn, khá giống bản mẫu:

Biến

Parser functions
Parser functions are very similar to variables but take one or more parameters (technically, any magic word that takes a parameter is a parser function), and the name is sometimes prefixed with a hash to distinguish them from templates.
This page only describes parser functions that are integral to the MediaWiki software. Other parser functions may be added by MediaWiki extensions such as the Extension:ParserFunctions. For those see Trợ giúp:Tiện ích mở rộng:ParserFunctions.

Thus {{ns:6}}, {{ns:File}}, and {{ns:Image}} (an old name for the File namespace) all return "File".
On a wiki where the content language is French, {{ns:Fichier}} is also valid, but {{ns:Datei}} (the localisation of "File" in German) is not.
The main namespace has no name, i.e. {{ns:0}} returns an empty string.
For explicitly referring to the main namespace, {{int:Blanknamespace}} can be used, resulting in "(Chính)".
{{nse:}} is the equivalent encoded for MediaWiki URLs. It does the same, but it replaces spaces with underscores, making it usable in external links.
