VisualEditor

edit

Miya,

VisualEditor will be turned on for the Japanese Wikipedia this Monday, 22 July 2013! This is one week sooner than I originally thought. I hope this will not be a big problem for you. Could you please do the small translations at https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Translate?filter=&action=translate&group=Centralnotice-tgroup-VisualEditor_deployment&language=ja as soon as possible? (Ignore the note which languages are the top priority: that list is out of date and will be corrected soon.) When the translations are done, then the banners will be shown to the editors at ja.wikipedia.

Thank you very much, once again, for your diligent work. I deeply appreciate it. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 19:20, 15 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Whatamidoing. I know your concern, but I cant find any page (translated or not) in https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Translate?filter=&action=translate&group=Centralnotice-tgroup-VisualEditor_deployment&language=ja . Well...I did some translations yesterday. Please tell me which pages exactly are left to be translated - in other words give me the exact pagenames here. Thanks.--miya (talk) 00:31, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
Now I can see https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Translate?filter=&action=translate&group=Centralnotice-tgroup-VisualEditor_deployment&language=ja. It's strange that I could not see it a few hours ago.--miya (talk) 06:07, 16 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
How very strange. I'm glad that it's finally working for you. The banner should have gone up at ja.wp as soon as it was translated, but I can't see it. I'll ask. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:31, 17 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Cannot translate again...

Today I couldn't translate again. The image on the right is the screenshop. It was frustrating. ;)--miya (talk) 07:10, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

I found why - the javascript on my Firefox had been OFF for some strange reason (I myself would not do so on Firefox, though). Now I can go back to translation interface. :) --miya (talk) 07:14, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply
I'm glad that you figured it out.
Did you see Guillom's latest note? VisualEditor is being delayed on the Japanese Wikipedia. Actually, I believe that all of them are being delayed until Wednesday, but the Japanese Wikipedia is being delayed for about a month. I hope this will give you more time to finish translations and also for the whole community to do more testing.
Would you please check the banners on Wednesday or Thursday? They are not supposed to switch to the banner that says it has already been made available in Japanese. If they do accidentally switch to the second banner, Guillom will want to know so he can fix it. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 21:23, 20 July 2013 (UTC)Reply

Miya, I haven't seen you here for a month or two. I hope you are doing well. In case you haven't seen it already, then I would like you to know about the request here: w:ja:Wikipedia‐ノート:ビジュアルエディター. Thank you for your kind support. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 04:56, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Whatamidoing (WMF). OK. I'll see to it. VisualEditor now has been extremely improved - far better than when I started translation of VE helps - and fewer bugs would occur. I think now I can reccomend VE to jawp people as very useful in some cases like editing tables or removing red links. Once they find VE useful, things would go better. Thank you for all your work!--miya (talk) 05:51, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Thank you for the kind words. I'm glad that you like it better now. I know that David Chan (the language engineer) would be very happy to have your feedback about IMEs. There is no deadline or emergency, but Japanese is very high on the list, so please let them know what you think as soon as it is convenient for you. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:01, 23 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Whatamidoing (WMF), I, testing VE in various namespaces by myself, found I cannot edit via VE in jawp Portal namespace (ex. ja:Portal:美術) while I can in enwp Portal namespace (ex. en:Portal:Visual arts). Why is VE not enabled in jawp Portals, I wonder... ;)--miya (talk) 02:39, 25 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for this information. It probably didn't occur to them to turn it on. The namespaces are different at each wiki. I'll ask them to turn it on for you. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:35, 27 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Oh,thank you, Whatamidoing :)--miya (talk) 15:50, 28 April 2015 (UTC)Reply
Hi Miya, James F would like to know whether you think that VisualEditor is doing well enough with the IME these days for this to be useful. How is it doing for you these days? Would you be able to edit a portal with VisualEditor? (I don't want you to end up with another epic 'snowman' bug again.) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 02:05, 12 May 2015 (UTC)Reply

Screenshots

edit

Hi there! Thanks for your message. I'll request that the bot takes screenshots again soon, in the meanwhile, I think you could overwrite the 2 you mentioned just like any other files? Here are the links to do so, [1] and [2]. Thanks a lot, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 11:16, 15 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Elitre! May I overwrite the files by Screenshots? If so, I'd try.--miya (talk) 13:26, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply
Why not? :) Try and let me know how that goes! Best regards, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 13:29, 16 February 2016 (UTC) PS: also, I asked, and the screenshot bot is temporarily down, so your help with this is hugely appreciated.Reply
Done. ;) File:VisualEditor edit tab-ja.png & File:VisualEditor toolbar-ja.png. Thank you!--miya (talk) 16:39, 16 February 2016 (UTC)Reply

Ciao Miya! No need to be frustrated here :) VE currently doesn't support adding : manually to make an interwiki link (hence your link was treated as an interlanguage one, and displayed on the left column). The good news is, if you just copy/paste an entire Wikipedia/Wikimedia URL, it will automagically turn it into an interwiki one (like I did here). HTH! Rock on, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 10:58, 5 July 2016 (UTC)Reply

A few questions for you

edit

Hi there! Because you are a proud member of the community taskforce for the visual editor, I'm sending you this short questionnaire so that we can learn how to improve existing resources and about different ways to build and share community knowledge. Thanks for participating! I'll come back here to collect your answers on September 9th. I'll collate answers on the taskforce talk page. Talk to you soon, --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 17:59, 31 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

PS: If for any reason you'd like to provide your answers privately, just send me an email instead.

  1. Was the existing documentation about how to adapt the visual editor to your context useful to you?
    • Do you have ideas about how to improve or expand it? (Note it has been changed recently, here's what it looked like before.)
Sorry, but I cant make VE my main editor - I prefer TWO TABs..--miya (talk) 16:13, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
    • What is your preferred format to learn about something or about how to get things done? Feel free to list tools or other resources, even if they aren't being used currently on our sites.
  2. What is the one thing related to adapting the visual editor which is not explained well anywhere and you're still struggling to learn more about?
  3. Did you create additional documentation/resources to help yourself and others? Like user guides, how-to/instruction pages, etc.? If so, please provide links.
I created a short documentation, ja:Help:ビジュアルエディター ("short" at first) in order to say "Let's try VE! You can switch VE and wiki editor back and forth! "--miya (talk) 16:13, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
  4. Did somebody else from WMF or your community assist you with the visual editor community work you did so far? Please list names and the ways they provided support (like, Alice sent me an email to explain how to do X). Please, add community members' names to the taskforce list if they are not there yet.
VE team members - like you, Elitre - were always helpful, reporting issues to phabricator, encouraging translation, answering to questions... --miya (talk) 16:13, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply

Hi, Elitre (WMF). I'm out of date about VE. I answered as far as I could.--miya (talk) 16:13, 8 September 2016 (UTC)Reply
