• 2006-06-06: Fix for XSS in 1.6 branch
Please, add link to XSS--85.140.58.195 09:05, 14 June 2006 (UTC)Reply
done, thanks for this little hint :-) --:Bdk: 10:16, 14 June 2006 (UTC) Reply

Currently obsolete

This template is currently unused on the wiki. The main page (where it used to be located) currently has its news in-line, and there is a separate News page that contains the full news history. This behaviour may change in the future.

In the meantime, it is still worth updating the page here, as people are using it for translation.

--HappyDog 12:15, 11 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Strike that - it is now in use again. --HappyDog 19:21, 14 October 2006 (UTC)Reply

Meaning of icon

Currently, the icon Image:Attention niels epting.svg does not have an alternative text associated with it on the news page, and the image page does not describe what it means. I can guess that red and an exclamation mark means "danger", but shouldn't the guesswork be removed? AGrimm 15:14, 9 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Added alt text "security" now. --:Bdk: 18:27, 11 September 2007 (UTC) Reply

Wrong date

Hi, the date given should be 2009-07-13. Cheers --Marbot 21:22, 13 July 2009 (UTC)Reply

Since 1.6.x is gone ...

... Main page would look nicer to have only two recent messages instead of three or four. Thus the big blank space below the download box would be avoided. Cheers --kgh 22:20, 29 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Release Candidate icon

Maybe use one from Candidate icon for all "release candidates" (as in )? --Kaganer 17:01, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

Great idea. Support --kgh 19:20, 14 June 2011 (UTC)Reply

News page synced with social media

There is a proposal to update this News template (and therefore the mediawiki.org homepage) with broadly the same entries we are having in the MediaWiki social media channels. See the @MediaWiki timeline in identi.ca to check the kind of news we are talking about.

We could start doing this manually and if we are happy about the result we could think of a way to have it automated via RSS/Atom syndication. Please discuss in this thread.--Qgil (talk) 21:22, 6 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Why not? :) However, I would keep the release news for the current stable and legacy sticky. Cheers --kgh (talk) 23:35, 14 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
There is the "Current version" block in the left.--Qgil (talk) 00:59, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Fair enough. The only thing missing there is the link to the release announcement. ;) --kgh (talk) 01:05, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

I think it is a very bad idea to spam this page with anything beside announcements of (security) updates. The rss feed was a very convinient way to stay informed on necessary updates. But with several updates per week for other reasons, that does not work anymore. --Hendrik Brummermann (talk) 08:44, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Perhaps we should have a (transcluded) sub-page for just releases? Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 18:13, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
News are news and new releases are new releases. Kghbln & Hendrik, why not improving Template:Current_versions to do exactly what you want to have?--Qgil (talk) 21:13, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Guess why? :) Apart from this: You have no opinion if a link to the announcement is useful or not? Hendrik could alternatively subscribe to the announce list which should be as convenient. --kgh (talk) 21:27, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply
Check User:Qgil/Template:Current versions (a template you can edit)  :) and let's move the discussion to Template talk:Current versions.--Qgil (talk) 22:19, 15 January 2013 (UTC)Reply

Formatting

Can we change the formatting from this:

to this?

The second way is easier to scan and works better when items are wrapped (since each item begins with a bullet point), plus it takes a little less space horizontally, so items are less likely to be wrapped. - dcljr (talk) 09:47, 15 February 2013 (UTC)Reply

Good point, and I agree it looks better. Would you like to volunteer the current copy (at least of the items appearing in the homepage)?--Qgil (talk) 19:57, 23 February 2013 (UTC)Reply
If you're asking whether I'd like to make the edits myself, I can't because I'm not an admin. - dcljr (talk) 03:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Applied to the items visible at the homepage. Much better! --Qgil (talk) 16:45, 1 March 2013 (UTC)Reply
Thanks. I'd do the rest, if I could edit the page... - dcljr (talk) 03:37, 11 March 2013 (UTC)Reply

Typo in recent news item

It should say 1.22.5 instead of 1.22.4. Cheers --kgh (talk) 10:45, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

@Kghbln: Thanks; have fixed. Jdforrester (WMF) (talk) 16:16, 28 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Twice links to mailing list

Why should you add two links to a mailing list? Southparkfan (talk) 22:02, 4 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Translation and translate tags

Hello, it looks like that the translate tags are not used within this page while it is translated. Is there any reason for that? If not, I think we should use theses tags in order to make easy the translation work. Pamputt (talk) 06:06, 20 August 2016 (UTC)Reply

1.29 release date is wrong

Year should be 2017, not 2016. --Tactica (talk) 14:56, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

  Done, thanks! --wargo (talk) 15:12, 17 July 2017 (UTC)Reply

Replace singular with plural under "2019-07-02"

Under "2019-07-02" on Template:MediaWiki News, it says "MediaWiki 1.31.3 and 1.32.3 is now available". Please replace this with "MediaWiki 1.31.3 and 1.32.3 are now available", because it is clearly plural. GeoffreyT2000 (talk) 18:08, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

  Done wargo (talk) 19:15, 15 August 2019 (UTC)Reply

The date of release news for 1.31.4/1.32.4/1.33.1 is not correct

The date "2019-06-06" seems to be incorrect. The right date is "2019-10-06", right? Cudo29 (talk) 07:40, 8 October 2019 (UTC)Reply
