Search Preview panel for mobile devices deployed on Portuguese, Russian, Indonesian Wikipedia

The Search Preview panel for mobile devices has been deployed on Portuguese, Russian, Indonesian Wikipedia last February 2. This follows the deployment of the panel also on desktop devices, which happened last January.

When someone does a search on Special:Search, the Search Preview feature will introduce a panel for each result, to help editors and readers discover relevant content and go directly to a desired section of the article. The panel will show an image related to the article (if existing), the top sections of the article, related images (coming from MediaSearch on Commons), and eventually the sister projects associated with the article.

You can read more about the workflow on the project’s page on MediaWiki.

Section-level Image Suggestion project page published

A new page relative to the work underway to design and generate image suggestion for sections of articles has been published. Section-level image suggestion is an extension of the article-level image suggestions feature, that recommends images for articles on contributors' watchlists that are a good match for individual sections of those articles.

This work will build on the work already done on the Image Suggestions feature, in combination with the work currently in development about Section Topics.

View it! featured on Wikipedia Signpost
View it!” is the first tool to be developed in partnership with Structured Data Across Wikimedia

A report about the View it! tool, developed by Dominic Byrd-McDevitt (User:Dominic), Kevin Payravi (User:SuperHamster), and Jamie Flood (User:JamieF), has been published on the Wikipedia Signpost last January 16.

The View it! tool enriches Wikipedia content by offering an illustration of a given subject. This tool increases the discovery of Wikimedia Commons uploads and encourages contributors to utilize Commons and structured data. The tool is currently in use by 114 users, and has particularly been helpful on smaller wikis to help add images to articles that previously did not have any.
