Pracujemy nad ułatwieniem czytania projektów Wikimedia w ramach celu "Czytanie i korzystanie z mediów" z planu rocznego na bieżący rok.

Dodaje ona menu, które działa na skórce Wektor 2022 i pozwala zalogowanym użytkownikom wybrać różne rozmiary czcionek i schematy kolorów w oparciu o indywidualne potrzeby.
Menu wprowadza nowe ustawienie tekstu: Normalny.
Nieznacznie też zwiększa rozmiar i wysokość czcionki.
Ustawienia te zostały wybrane w oparciu o wiele źródeł.

Co się zmieni?
Jesteśmy teraz gotowi, aby udostępnić nowe menu Wygląd dla wylogowanych i zalogowanych użytkowników.
Jednocześnie sprawimy, że opcja Normalny stanie się domyślna tylko dla wylogowanych użytkowników.
Jeśli nie pojawią się żadne problemy techniczne, planujemy wprowadzić tę zmianę w ciągu najbliższych dwóch tygodni.

O menu
Nowe menu pozwoli zalogowanym i wylogowanym użytkownikom ustawić preferencje co do:
Rozmiar tekstu i wielkość interlinii (dostępne teraz jako funkcja eksperymentalna): użytkownicy będą mogli wybierać między opcjami: Mały (obecna domyślna), Normalny (zalecana dla lepszej dostępności) i Duży. Wybranie opcji zmieni zarówno rozmiar tekstu, jak i wielkość interlinii.
Tryb ciemny (dostępny teraz jako funkcja eksperymentalna): użytkownicy będą mogli wybrać wyświetlanie strony w trybie ciemnym na stałe lub wybrać ustawienie "automatyczne", które ustawi tryb jasny lub nocny w oparciu o preferencje urządzenia lub przeglądarki.
Szerokość treści (poprzednio dostępna jako osobny przełącznik): przenieśliśmy przełącznik szerokości treści z rogu ekranu do przycisku w nowym menu. Będzie on działał dokładnie tak samo jak stary przełącznik, który z kolei nie będzie już dostępny.
To menu było testowane jako funkcja eksperymentalna przez zalogowanych użytkowników z różnych wiki, jak również w testach z czytelnikami. Opierając się na wynikach tych testów, zmieniliśmy menu, aby poprawić łatwość wyszukiwania i użytkowania, a także poprawić jego kompatybilność z gadżetami.
Menu pojawi się w prawej części strony, bezpośrednio pod menu Narzędzia, jeśli zostało przypięte. W przeciwieństwie do menu Narzędzia menu Wygląd jest domyślnie przypięte, ale można je odpiąć. Po odpięciu zwija się ono pod ikoną na górze strony.
O ustawieniu tekstu: Normalny
The "Small" option is the current default. We will be changing this default to "Standard" for logged-out users, while keeping "Small" as the default for logged-in users. The "Standard" and "Large" options were built and tested based on the following:
Academic studies and recommendations for the best average font size for the majority of readers. These recommendations stated that our current size is too small for the majority of people to read comfortably. This means that on average, people read more slowly, strain their eyes while reading, or have difficulty clearly seeing the text. Increasing the font size by default improves these issues for all users, including users who might not have sufficient time to spend adjusting a setting via the appearance menu or browser. Information density is also important, which is why we wanted to increase font size without sacrificing information density. We have achieved this by changing not only font size, but also line height and paragraph spacing.
Designs submitted by more than 630 Wikipedians from across 13 wikis of different languages, scripts, and sizes. The majority (~450) of these users opted for a font size that was larger than the default. "Standard" represents the average of the most popular cluster of responses (15-20 pixels). "Large" represents the need for an even larger option, as represented by the cluster of sizes between 21-26 pixels. Beta feature usage showed that the majority of users who interact with the feature at least once opt for a font size that is larger than the current default.

Logged-in users will remain with the "small" setting for the time being as their default, but can change to any other setting at any time. In a few months, we will study how many logged-in users switch to standard and start a conversation on whether it makes sense for logged-in users to make the switch as well. From the early data from the beta feature, 55% of sessions who interacted with the feature chose to use a setting that was standard or larger.
