User guide completed in French
editHi there
The French community has created an help page / user guide for Content translation. It may be a good inspiration for this user guide.

- On fr.wiki, I don't need to click on the button to be prompted to start a new translation, the pop-up shows up right after I access the Traductions section. --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 06:06, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- Trizek, this is absolutely amazing. I should have seen it coming! \o/ --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:11, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- You can thank Mattho69: he mostly did everything! And ping me if I can help. Trizek (WMF) (talk) 14:54, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
- I did - he's amazing! And thank you, too! --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:55, 27 May 2015 (UTC)

not-in-the-other-language
editAlthough https://tools.wmflabs.org/not-in-the-other-language is not really part of CX, it is linked from the Dashboard, therefore I recommend that the guide also explains how to use it in brief (it may not be obvious to the user that it's just an external tool to look up titles, it may look broken since the Page title search doesn't seem to work with lower case words, etc.) --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 06:27, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- It will probably be removed very soon when we add a better mechanism for suggestions, so I didn't bother. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:11, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Just can't work
edit(Just my 2c) I wish it wasn't possible to select language pairs which just can't work, but I see what you did there :p --Elitre (WMF) (talk) 06:27, 26 May 2015 (UTC)
- It shouldn't be possible, and if it's possible it's a bug. But if you mean to say that we probably plan to deploy to all the languages anyway, then you're probably right ;) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 14:11, 27 May 2015 (UTC)
Testing?
editUser:Elitre (WMF) or User:Trizek (WMF), did either of you go through the directions, step by step, to see if they worked? (I can, if you haven't, but there's probably no need for multiple people to do it.) Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 02:55, 1 June 2015 (UTC)
- I'm currently testing this user guide, and I've seen several problems or questions (cc Amire80 ). Some are just comments, and can be directly changed, but I prefer to give you feedback before.
- on frwp, where I did the test (on this article), the list of published articles does not works (but a published article appears on the "show all" article list). I will test it on an other WP if I have time.
- now, it is possible to continue a translation when it is published (great!), but the text will replace the former one which may have been updates since. The user guide do not indicate this.
- on frwp, we have focused on that people should translate articles with sources and references, and, in case of long articles, privilege sourced key points. Is it relevant to add it to this user guide, considering it as a user guide for Wikipedia?
- concerning links, if there is no automated translation (or a wired one) for a word linked, there is a tricky way to change the translation without erasing the link (add the correct translation in the middle on the word, and then erase the remaining letters on the right and the left). You should indicate you can't create a link in the translation, and, if you suppress a link, you won't be able to recreate it in the translation interface.
- Feedback welcome! :) Trizek (WMF) (talk) 17:16, 3 June 2015 (UTC)
Wide page
editThe last photo on the page is quite wide, making horizontal scrollbar appear. --Nikerabbit (talk) 08:09, 4 June 2015 (UTC)
CC0
editI release all my edits to Content translation/Documentation/User guide under CC-0.
User:Nikerabbit, User:Trizek (WMF), User:Shirayuki, can you please do the same so I'd move it to the help space? See Project:PD help. Thanks. --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 07:38, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- Yes, I release all my edits to Content translation/Documentation/User guide under CC0 too.
- Amir E. Aharoni, do you want me to apply the suggestions I've made above? Trizek (WMF) (talk) 08:55, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
- I release all my edits to Content translation/Documentation/User guide under CC0, too.--Shirayuki (talk) 11:31, 10 June 2015 (UTC)
Removing the gray interwiki links
editHi! Some months ago I tested the ContentTranslation tool, so I tried with several languages. Now, there are gray interwiki links in the sidebar which I will never use (I don't understand these languages), but nobody could tell me until now how can I remove them (all of them or some of them). I didn't find anything in the user preferences or in the documentation. Could please help me out (and others had the same question as well)? Thank you! Samat (talk) 18:51, 10 September 2017 (UTC)
- Hi Samat, I am Runa from the Content Translation team. The gray interlanguage links are part of Content Translation and is shown when you enable the tool. It is one of the ways people are suggested the languages into which they can translate the article that they are currently reading. The languages in gray indicate the languages where that article is missing, and the list is determined based on certain criteria like your browser preferences, past languages you have translated into, geographical location (if shared) etc. It cannot be currently disabled as we do not have such granular preferences, but this is good feedback and I will share it with the rest of the team. cx-sourceselector-dialog-button-start-translation
editIt seems that this parameter doesn't exists for the Template:Int (or something is broken). Aquatech (talk) 20:55, 25 May 2018 (UTC)
- Hello Aquatech, could you please elaborate the problem some more? "cx-sourceselector-dialog-button-start-translation" is the pretty long name of some user interface message we used to have in the past. Since then, that name was changed or simply removed. You provide some clue about what this is about by mentioning Template:Int, but I would like to hear the details. On which wiki does this happen. I have looked into templates on wikis you have listed on your user page, and mediawiki.org is the only wiki that has the Template:Int. Petar.petkovic (talk) 21:50, 25 May 2018 (UTC).
- Sorry, now I realized how cryptic and ambiguous my sentence was. I was writing about the text of the Help:Extension:ContentTranslation page, section Starting a translation, 4th (and last) instruction. "Start Translation" should appear, not ⧼cx-sourceselector-dialog-button-start-translation⧽. Sorry again. Aquatech (talk) 21:18, 26 May 2018 (UTC)
- I fixed the problem by removing the button code from the English source code and left just the text "Start translation" there. -Kyykaarme (talk) 09:27, 17 April 2021 (UTC)
