Dear UltrasonicNXT, Welcome to MediaWiki.org!

Yes, welcome! This site is dedicated to documenting the MediaWiki software, the software behind many wikis, including that of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
Please, take a look at the following pages. They might prove useful to you as a newcomer here:

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and find this site useful documentation of the MediaWiki software.

MediaWikiChat API

edit

Hi UltrasonicNXT, great to see MediaWikiChat up on MediaWiki.org. :) If you'd like, I could add some info about the API actions that can be used in chat onto the extension page. Would you want me to do that? --GeorgeBarnick (talk) 21:19, 12 December 2013 (UTC)Reply

+1 to what George wrote above. :D The next step would probably be to get it added to translatewiki.net so that it can be translated into multiple languages.
Also, can haz extension-MediaWikiChat group membership plz? (You might also want to consider requesting a Brickimedia gerrit group, à la our ShoutWiki group — it can be pretty handy at times!) --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 12:26, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
yeah, of course. How do I add you though? All the options are greyed out... UltrasonicNXT (talk)
I was going to ask if you are logged in to gerrit, but then I remembered that the /admin/* pages aren't even shown (!) to anonymous users...so you must be logged in and yet the fields are grayed out — that sounds like there's a problem with the repository's or the group's permission, because on ShoutWiki's group page, the fields are not grayed out and I'm able to add people to the group. Maybe you could ask for help/second opinion in #mediawiki/#wikimedia-dev and poke Chad about this, since he maintains the git repositories and knows a bit more about 'em than I ever will. --Jack Phoenix (Contact) 13:30, 13 December 2013 (UTC)Reply
Chad's added you :) UltrasonicNXT (talk)

ArticleRatings Extension

edit

Hi UltrasonicNXT, I find the ArticleRatings Extension is must-be on my mediawiki site. I installed it, but don't know how to configure parameters,MediaWiki:Ratings, MediaWiki:Rating-default, andMediaWiki:Rating-box. Would you give some examples? --211.208.70.169 02:10, 6 June 2014 (UTC)Reply

Replied here. UltrasonicNXT (talk)

WikiForums

edit

Hello. I'm having a really annoying issue with the WikiForums. Even though I am a bureaucrat, sysop & forumadmin, I still cannot create a forum as I get the error:

<wikiforum-error-category>

You don't have the rights to perform this action.

And I don't know what is going wrong, or if it is a bug or merely an incorrect setup. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Rinzler135 (talk) 10:21, 25 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

Also, sorry for editing an already existing section, but I am using a mobile browser and I couldn't make a new one.

No problem. Now, I can create a forum fine on my test wiki, so this may need some investigation. Any chance of a URL to your wiki? Are you running the latest version of WikiForum? UltrasonicNXT (talk)

CAPTCHA for WikiForum

edit

Hi, can you have a look here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:WikiForum#Spam_Protection
Can you add a CAPTCHA-function ? --hollosch (talk) 23:11, 30 October 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi there, I've been pretty inactive lately and to be honest, I don't think I have time for this right now. Is disabling anon posting not a solution? Sorry. UltrasonicNXT (talk)
Hi, disable anon posting is not a solution because i want the user to post without register... can you have a look if it is possible to captcha - this will be soo great.

another prob is to delete the spam-threads - look here: https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension_talk:WikiForum#Error_when_deleting_a_thread --hollosch (talk) 16:37, 4 November 2014 (UTC)Reply

Could WikiForum be made to work with the WikiEditor and/or VisualEditor?

edit

It would be really useful if it could utilize either of these extensions. Thanks, BradLeeBH (talk) 07:35, 27 August 2015 (UTC)Reply

Hmm, good ideas. I'm not too active with WF at the mo, but when some time crops up I'll have a look. UltrasonicNXT (talk)
Should work with WikiEditor now. UltrasonicNXT (talk)

wikiforum recover deleted threads/replies

edit

I was wondering if it was at all possible to add in the ability for mods and administrators to undelete threads and replies? All the features currently available is great, just that deleted threads/replies are not logged in either the forum or delete logs and that its not possible to recover them to the original condition. You have done a fantastic job with the rewrite so far --35.20.145.22 04:23, 17 October 2016 (UTC)Reply

Wikiforums feature expansion?

edit

I wanted to ask if it was ok for me to attempt to add in the following missing features? 1. adding hooks to Extension:Echo for notifications regarding replies or wiki-wide sticky threads. 2. allow moderators/admins to move threads/replies to another forum board - extension is set up current where its a category with forum then any additional forums created acts as a forum board. I do have a few icons in mind for the move button. 3. change delete threads/replies to be placed into an archive table for view and restoring rather than deleting from the database.

I'll inform you when testing produces expected results to merge to master branch. --35.20.211.15 23:06, 20 November 2016 (UTC)Reply

Comments extension allows down-voting despite specifying not to use it

edit

When using <comments voting="Plus" /> — it is supposed to prevent users from rating comments negatively (thumb down), allowing only positive (thumb up) votes

Currently it only stops the thumb down icon from showing UNTIL you vote for someone. But after you have voted for someone however, it appears.

This then not only allows you to un-vote someone, but it ALSO allows you to down-vote someone, which is what the "Plus" syntax is supposed to prevent.

Shouldn't the desired behavior be a single up arrow (thumb up) that only allows voting/un-voting, and NOT down-voting as well?

"Refreshed" Skin Error

edit

I'm experimenting with a future wiki of my own, and I'm hoping I can use your "Refreshed" skin. However, there's an error that keeps saying the following:

Warning: count(): Parameter must be an array or an object that implements Countable in (pathway to RefreshedTemplate.php file) on line 113

I've already asked someone about this, and while they did give me helpful advice, they insisted I talk to the people responsible for making this skin, such as yourself. I'm hoping you'd be able to resolve the issue I have with this unwanted message being displayed. If you can, I'd truly appreciate it. Please, and thank you! --The-Psychid (talk) 18:50, 16 November 2018 (UTC)Reply
