Dear Malyacko, Welcome to MediaWiki.org!

Yes, welcome! This site is dedicated to documenting the MediaWiki software, the software behind many wikis, including that of Wikipedia and the Wikimedia Foundation projects.
Please, take a look at the following pages. They might prove useful to you as a newcomer here:

If you have any questions, please ask me on my talk page. Once again, welcome, and I hope you quickly feel comfortable here, and find this site useful documentation of the MediaWiki software.

Starting conversion of LiquidThreads to Flow at mediawiki.org edit

Hello. I'm sending this to you, because you've been one of the top 50 users of LQT on mediawiki.org over the last 360 days,[1] and I wanted to make sure that you'd seen the announcement at Starting conversion of LiquidThreads to Flow at mediawiki.org. There are links in the topic-summary at the top, for other discussions (wikitech-l and Project:Current_issues), and a link to the planned process and timeline (scheduled to begin April 6, with smaller conversions at first). Please do test Flow out at Talk:Sandbox if you haven't tried it recently, and give any feedback/suggestions/requests at that main discussion location. Much thanks, Quiddity (WMF) (talk) 00:39, 28 March 2015 (UTC)Reply

Mediawiki farm edit

  • Hi

i buy vps 30 GB disk

i want to install Extension:farmer

can this user help me install farmer in my wiki?--Msnhinet8 (talk) 10:45, 3 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

@Msnhinet8: Hi, I'm not sure what your question is, and why you contact me, and what "help" means exactly. You may want to ask on Project:Support desk or look at Professional development and consulting if things get more complicated. --Malyacko (talk) 11:56, 4 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Equinox - Wiktionary Conduct, Lies, Vulgar Insults, Unjust Blocking edit

Hello, I am seeking advice for what to do regarding unjust blocking and being harassed on Wiktionary by the user known as 'Equinox'.
Walterblue222 was my original account, which was unjustly blocked after being repeatedly harassed and insulted by ‘Equinox’.
Equinox has a habit of responding by batantly lying, insulting, and degrading others instead of presenting any logical argument or rebuttal, then blocking them and refusing to ever address the situation in an appropriate manner.
‘Metaknowledge’ then blocked me on false charges of "edit warring", which I did not engage in; the edit I was blocked for making was valid, was re-added by another user without issue, and is on the current version of the page.
None of my edits were malevolent, disruptive, "clearly nonsensical", or "troll edits", and basing a block on multiple previous blocks from a different site is not appropriate - yet, Walterblue222 was permanently blocked.
I am not associated with Theraputicartsgroup.
XavierDuvall was created after the inappropriate blocking of Walterblue222. XavierDuvall is not a sockpuppet because it is not an additional account belonging to me; rather, a replacement account for my original account which should never have been blocked to begin with. I have never had more than one account at any time. Amarach was created after XavierDuvall was inappropriately blocked by Equinox.
I don’t have a problem with others disagreeing with me - as long as they can provide a valid explanation for doing so. Equinox is a prime example of someone who is unable to support their argument logically or rationally, thus behaving like a petulant child, attacking and ignoring others instead of accepting and admitting when they are incorrect about something. I never claimed to be infallible, I make mistakes - everyone does. I have the decency to admit it when I’m proven wrong. Equinox does not.
When I tried posting this explanation to your talk page on Wiktionary, Metaknowledge removed it and blocked me again. They will probably do so again.
Why is this type of behavior permitted? Why should I be blocked for following the rules and expecting others to support their position when they disagree with something I've said? I'm not trying to force my views on anyone and I explain my arguments, but in response all I get is insulted and criticized without any comment on the issue itself.
Please Advise.

Hi unknown writer, I do not know why you think that I personally could advise here. Maybe you could bring this up on meta:Requests for comment, but I do not know all potential escalation paths in all Wikimedia communities, sorry. --Malyacko (talk) 08:54, 12 October 2019 (UTC)Reply

Have you installed a mirror using MediaWiki? edit

I've been looking over the documentation, but it isn't clear that any of it actually works.

Before spending hours testing the various instructions, I'd like to find someone who has a mirror using MediaWiki up and running.

If you have, or you know someone who has, please let me know.

I look forward to your reply. The Transhumanist (talk) 13:18, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

P.S.: please ping me (if that actually works here). The Transhumanist (talk) 13:18, 11 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

@The Transhumanist: Hi, why do you ask me specifically, instead of asking in a public support channel? --Malyacko (talk) 15:42, 12 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
To find someone who has hosted a mirror, and therefore knows how. Are you one? The Transhumanist (talk) 00:19, 13 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@The Transhumanist: I don't see how pinging random individual people is a good use of time of random individual people. Support forums exist for a good reason? :) --Malyacko (talk) 09:57, 14 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
You don't see how helping others on a wiki is a good use of your time? Answer: it may help them improve the wiki or the community, or both. That's why we're all here, right? MediaWiki's entire communication system is designed to facilitate collaboration (support), including user talk pages. Once I manage to install a mirror, I'll either improve the instructions for doing so, or improve the access to the instructions for doing so. Right now, documentation on how to set up a Wikipedia/Wikimedia mirror is woefully inadequate, or it is very well hidden, and so I need to find someone with experience in mirror hosting. Since you replied to my mirror hosting thread, that made you a candidate. Thank you for the clarification. I'll cross you off the candidates list. Thank you for your time. Sincerely, The Transhumanist (talk) 09:13, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@The Transhumanist: I don't understand why one would intentionally scatter communication by moving to personal talk pages instead of keeping communication centralized in the original thread where discussion started. Abandoning a thread on the Support Desk by moving the discussion to user talk pages does not scale and does not help others. --Malyacko (talk) 22:13, 15 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
Abandoned? I've been checking the original post (on Wp-mirror) frequently to see if any others responded there. I don't see how you could reasonably conclude that the thread has been abandoned. Original location? Note, that this thread we're in right now is distinct from that one you refer to as "the original", as this one is not about Wp-mirror. Does not scale? I can handle around 100 threads per day, which is well within my ability to scale. One thread can hardly be considered a scaling issue. My conclusion is, that you just aren't happy. I'm sorry you are having a bad week. May the holidays cheer you up! Sincerely, The Transhumanist (talk) 05:32, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
P.S.: if you successfully install a mirror, or run across anyone else who has, please, by all means, let me know. Thank you. The Transhumanist (talk) 05:37, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
@The Transhumanist: Private messages on random people's talk pages do not scale. Private messages on random people's talk pages do not help others. If you have a question about installing a mirror and want to find someone who has installed a mirror, then please ask in a public support place instead of pinging absolutely random people on their talk pages for no particular reason whatsoever. Thanks for your understanding. --Malyacko (talk) 09:22, 20 December 2019 (UTC)Reply
One, they're not private. Two, it wasn't random, as explained above. Three, they do scale, relatively. Four, it wasn't a ping. Five, I always have a reason. Six, I won't be posting you again. Seven, don't bother pinging me, as I've muted you in preferences. And eight, wish me luck. The hunt goes on. Ciao. Sincerely, The Transhumanist (talk) 13:48, 21 December 2019 (UTC)Reply

Advanced mode to own wiki edit

Advanced mode is an extension of the mobile version that gives more "features" to the phone visitor. Here is a link to the advanced modes discussion: Reading/Web/Advanced mobile contributions

And this advanced mode is used in Wikimedia Commons, for example. --Antonkarpp (talk) 14:08, 27 July 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Antonkarpp: Hi! I have no idea why or in which context you added this comment. (It's probably related to some discussion somewhere but only you remember, and nobody can follow a conversation in one place if you don't reply on the original discussion but instead post in other random places such as personal talk pages.) Thanks a lot! --Malyacko (talk) 11:46, 1 August 2020 (UTC)Reply

@Ilovemydoodle2 That makes no sense as the Support desk is a StructuredDiscussions page. It is not an old talk page. All information (username, time stamp) is automatically there. No need to duplicate information by unhelpfully "signing" posts in addition to make things harder to read and look more ugly. Malyacko (talk) 15:28, 26 July 2022 (UTC)Reply
