Give us your feedback about some new features for the Flow:Extension

Hi @Bozonbozon,

Since you discussed about the Flow:Extension, I imagine you are using the Flow extension on your wiki.

To us, Flow discussion boards are very powerful. However, they can only be used on the discussion page of a specific page. This doesn't encourage collaboration because users usually visit the pages they watch and some discussions remains unanswered for days...

We believe a special page that gather all the discussions of the wiki will improve collaboration between users.

In the meantime, discussions boards are displayed in a separate tab. This can be confusing to newcomers. If the discussion boards were transcluded under the wiki page itself, it'd look like what users are used to see on other sites (like comments on a blog).

As Mediawiki developers, our team have apply for this Grant to develop such features.

If you think this project should be selected for a Project Grant, please add your name and rationale for endorsing at the bottom of this page : https://meta.wikimedia.org/wiki/Grants:Project/ClemFlip/Wikifab/Various_types_of_transclusions_of_Flow_discussion_boards

Of course, other constructive feedback is welcome.

Thanks a lot for your help.

I am happy to have helped other poor souls in the same poor situation as me. And anyway, it's all in a day's work for Confuse-a-Cat. :)

Perhaps, we should move on to installing Flow. I have got stuck right at the very first pre-requisite, Echo. When I have time (when?!), I will try to create the necessary SQL tables manually. The web updater created none of them.

The order doesn't matter :) You can also run the update script from the PHPAdmin

extensions/Echo/echo.sql

Thanks for the idea! Since phpMyAdmin is nothing else than a bundle of php scripts, we can use it too.

I changed the labels /*_*/, etc. in the SQL code by hand. Were there a way to do this automatically?

Now, Echo and Flow works all right for me too, but the latter does not use VisualEditor. I took a look at your wiki, and apparently you do not have this problem. What settings do you use for Flow? I issue only require_once("$IP/extensions/Flow/Flow.php");. I tried $wgFlowEditorList = array( 'visualeditor', 'none' ); with no effect as expected ;-) (this is the default value); and also $wgFlowParsoidPrefix = "localhost"; (in this deprecated way, in order to avoid touching the working VisualEditor setup) to no avail.

(Congrats for your nice wiki! I would have spent hours reading it if I spoke Polish. ;-))

The thing that I cannot use VisualEditor (nor preview) in Flow may be in connection with being not able to switch between VisualEditor and wikitext back and forth seamlessly. Furthermore, the description of config parameter $wgVisualEditorUseSingleEditTab on VisualEditor page suggests that this all depends on having RESTBase running or not. Do you have it? In your wiki, it seems to me that switching works well.

By the way, regardless if I reply to the topic or a comment (here, in this discussion), my reply is top-level in the topic, I encounter no signs of threading. Why is this so? Is this page set up this way?
