Javascript extension edit

I've installed DynamicPageList2 on my mediawiki. It works great. On the demo page I saw that you have created an extension called Javascript. Is this extension anywhere available? I didn't see it here on www.mediawiki.org BB70 08:38, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

I uploaded the source code together with a short description. Algorithmix 14:34, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply
BTW: Could you please make an entry on the page Websites using DPL? Algorithmix 14:36, 15 February 2007 (UTC)Reply

Demonstrating my extensions on the DPLDEMO website edit

You offered to demonstrate my extensions on the DPLDEMO website. This would indeed be very interesting. Feel free to install the extensions, and I'd be happy to write some demo code!

You might prefer not to enable Database Querying as this implies that the email adresses of registered users become publically available. Unfortunately I don't know how to solve that, and to my opinion this is a serious obstacle against using Database Querying on public sites.

Nevertheless, even without that feature Extension:StackFunctions still offers a lot of posibilities which would be worthwhile to demonstrate. - RV1971 09:29, 26 May 2007 (UTC)Reply

Hello! edit

Noted your interest in DPL+Googlemaps integration - did you find any good resources or info on how DPL do their very cool maps? Would be very helpful to a non-profit if you could help in anyway - having a headache with this! Licensing Update? edit

My name is Michael Stahnke and I work with the Fedora project. We'd like to package up some of your mediawiki extensions as RPMs for use with our distribution. Currently, however we are unclear on the licensing of these extensions. They only say 'no license specified' on the mediawiki.org extension page, and examining the source code has not helped either. If these are in fact open source extensions, please place a license on them so we are free to use them in our distribution. Until the license is clarified, we are unable to include them in our distribution.

Thanks for your time.

Michael Stahnke (stahnma at fedoraproject dot org)
Extension:DynamicPageList (DPL) is free software according to GPL. I will put a statement clarifying this on the dpldemo web page. Algorithmix 06:55, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

DPL2 code update edit

I've updated the codebase (1.7.6) to the Subversion Repository, and solved the encoding problems. So the localisation problem can be resolved. :) Shinjiman 15:32, 30 April 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks! As I am the primary maintainer of DPL2 I will try to get access rights to the svn repo and then this will become the master place for the DPL sources. Algorithmix 07:00, 21 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

As of 25 and 26. May 2009, DPL and MW 1.16 alpha do not work together, see https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/show_bug.cgi?id=18924 Thanks for all your good work! --G.Hagedorn 09:49, 26 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

I think the same problem also happens with earlier versions of MW. It should be resolved in DPL 1.7.9. Algorithmix 04:05, 27 May 2009 (UTC)Reply
The DPL2 codebase (1.7.9) had been applied on rev:51054, have fun. Shinjiman 11:50, 27 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Call code update edit

I've updated the Call codebase (0.7) into the WM Subversion Repository as well (committed on rev:51055, rev:51056, rev:51057, and the previous code was based on 0.6). Hopfully the usage of this can be increases. :) Shinjiman 11:57, 27 May 2009 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for dplcache edit

Thank you for your work on dplcache. We use DPL on the Russian WikiFur front page, and it was nice to see the purge times going down.

If you're looking to improve performance further, one possibility might be to figure out a way for it to not have to touch all of its code files, especially if there are no DPL tags in a page (since code must be retrieved from APC cache - or worse, re-parsed). I think some extensions do this - you can see in the APC code cache that only some of their files are touched, and not all the time - but I don't know how they do it. DPL edit

Question on GPL license version number edit

I was referred to you as the developer of the Dynamic Page List extension. I am currently using your DPL (Dynamic Page List) extension to MediaWiki. I checked around on various links and I found that it is available under the GPL license but it there is no specification of which version: GPL v2 or GPL v3. Do you know which GPL version the DPL extension is licensed under? I can use products licensed under GPL v2 but not GPL v3. If it is GPL v3, is it possible to get a version licensed under GPL v2?

Thank you for your assistance.

Millie H.

It is GPL v2. --Algorithmix 15:33, 21 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

Thanks for your work edit

Gero: Just wanted to thank you for your work contributing to the MediaWiki ecology. Best wishes. (I noticed that you have Subversion access but it looks like you haven't added your USERINFO file yet -- go ahead!) Sumanah 18:42, 8 October 2011 (UTC)Reply

Extension:Call on MediaWiki 1.19.1 edit

In the Download information section of your Extension:Call it says:

The latest Version 1.2 is only usable for Mediawiki version < 1.18.0. If you use Mediawiki version >= 1.8 download http://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Special:ExtensionDistributor/Call

But that's a dead link. What shall I do?

(Feel free to reply in German btw)

Ordering DPL by lasteditdate edit

Hi, I'm trying to create a list ordered by the last time it was edited, but displaying the creation date in the output format.

If I understand correctly this should output a list with a creation date:

<DPL>
addeditdate=true
order=firstedit
format=\n,%PAGE% - %DATE%<br />
</DPL>

But sorts the list according to when the page was created. To sort a list according to the last time the page was edited it would go something like:

<DPL>
order=lastedit
format=\n,%PAGE%<br />
</DPL>

Although if I was to use addeditdate=true along with %DATE% it would then output the last edit date.

Extension:DPLforum seems to support something similar to this with addcreationdate=true (although it is based on another version of a dynamic page list extension) and I was wondering if it was possible to do something similar here. Camdroid (talk) 15:53, 23 November 2012 (UTC)Reply

Hi Gero,

Work availability edit

Hi Gero, we're looking for a good mediawiki dev for a paid position looking after a mediawiki-based document management system that uses about 20 custom extensions. It usually requires about five hours per month but sometimes has some bigger projects on that need a bit more. If you're interested to know more and have ongoing availability for such a thing please email me at aran at organicdesign.nz. --Nad (talk) 10:36, 16 February 2018 (UTC)Reply

DPL2/third-party compatibility with 1.35 edit

Hello Gero, I'm not exactly sure the best way to get in contact with the team working on DPL2 and DPL3 (I see you listed on both, and several overlapping members on each extension's page). At current both DPL2/third-party and DPL3 have been flagged as incompatible with MediaWiki 1.35 (LTS) due to lack of actor support (see: T267824 and T6402), causing database errors and as such has been flagged as incompatible on the extension page and not recommended for use on production wikis. We decided to switch back to DPL2 from DPL3 for testing, then discovered that DPL built-in variables also no longer work in surrogate/phantom templates under MediaWiki 1.35. We get the literal text output for the %PAGE% and other built-in variables, instead of the value of those variables as documented. We rely fairly heavily on surrogate/phantom templates to retrieve template parameter values, in combination with built-in dpl variables and parser functions and I see on wikiapiary there are about 600 wiki currently using DPL2/3. We're trying to determine if we need to stay at 3.33, or downgrade to 3.31 LTS in lieu of the current LTS not being supported. Is there any way that users can donate to the project in the hopes of an update for compatibility with the current release of MediaWiki? Thanks! TiltedCerebellum (talk) 08:47, 14 November 2020 (UTC)Reply

Vielen Dank!
