This quarter brought with it many new and unexpected challenges, but the technical movement is resilient and robust. Though we may not meet in person, there are still many opportunities to work together.

Features

• The new Wikimedia Technical Blog launched this quarter. The blog publishes stories written by the Wikimedia technical community about the technology and software behind running a top 10 website and how Open Source makes it possible. Check out the editorial guidelines to learn more about how you can write and publish stories about the work you do.
• Learn more about the year-long effort to improve MediaWiki Action API documentation.
• Check out the new Tools Gallery created with the help of a Google Code-in student. The repository is available on GitHub.
• All Toolforge tools using Kubernetes are now running on the 2020 Kubernetes cluster.

What's new?

• Google Code-in finished up in January with 715 Wikimedia task instances were successfully completed thanks to 194 students and 43 mentors.
• 6 Outreachy Round 19 projects were successfully completed
• 18 project ideas promoted in upcoming Google Summer of Code 2020 & Outreachy Round 20

Community metrics

Wikimedia Cloud Services dashboard

The first version of the Wikimedia Cloud Services Edits dashboard (wmcs-edits) is now available. Using this dashboard you will able to see three types (tabular, time-series, and hierarchical) of visualization of the percentage of edits coming to ~870 Wikimedia wikis from Wikimedia Cloud Services every month.

Phabricator and Gerrit

• Phabricator: Number of tasks created in Q1/2020: 7410
• Phabricator: Number of tasks closed in Q1/2020: 7201
• Phabricator: Number of different people who created tasks in Q1/2020: 1020
• Phabricator: Number of different people who closed tasks in Q1/2020: 491
• Gerrit: 346 people wrote patches (176 of them being volunteers) in Q1/2020.

• Wikimedia Hackathon 2020: Postponed until 2021
• Wikimania 2020: Postponed until 2021
• Enterprise MediaWiki Conference Spring 2020 EMWCon 2020: April 01–03, 2020. Features discussions of topics related to enterprise Mediawiki. This year's conference was online and free.
