Expand all bug edit

Hi! Looks like this will be useful, and I understand that it's in the experimental stage, so I don't know if this is already going to be fixed soon, but here's a bug that I noticed when I hit the expand all option on the filter.

As you can see above, Erik overlaps Rob who overlaps Andrew and Chad's zoom button goes out of his box.

I'm aware that expanding any node means overlapping with another node, if there are children below it. Figuring out how to make the expansion a little more friendly is something we're exploring, but it will most likely be solved when we upgrade to a different method for the user interface--right now we're using a jQuery library that pretty much amounts to a cool table hack, but when we start experimenting with divs and/or HTML5 stuff, it should start working a lot better. Filter - show contractors bug edit

When you check only the "show contractors" option, all the details disappear and you're left with blank boxes, see File:WMF Organisation Chart Bug 2.png. TheHelpfulOne 01:14, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

This one's a bit odd to reproduce, if you keep checking and unchecking you'll eventually find it on that on both contractors and vacancies (not able to reproduce on employees yet). TheHelpfulOne 01:17, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Vertical layout instead? edit

Has a vertical layout been considered instead of a horizontal layout? It has some psychological and some aesthetic advantages in this situation, in my opinion. --MZMcBride (talk) 03:36, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

We're going to be considering multiple ways of displaying the data over the next month or so, hopefully including a vertical (i.e. rotated from current) layout, among others. Thanks for the input! MarkTraceur (talk) 08:00, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

Bugs? edit

Hi, this is marvellous! Two bugs (or just I don't understand?):

  • When I click on "zoom here", and after it on "full chart", the tail of URL disappears from URL bar.
  • When I click on the black ball, the box collapses, but I can"t undo this to see the details.

Bináristalk 04:38, 5 April 2012 (UTC)Reply

The first is expected behavior -- when you zoom out, you should no longer be linked to the zoomed chart. The hash is meant to indicate that the chart has been zoomed in, so when the hash is empty, it means the chart isn't zoomed at all, and you are brought to the base of the chart. The second is somewhat my fault in not explaining how it works -- to see the details, hover your cursor over a node. The pin will then again be shown so that you can keep the node expanded, or (if you do nothing) mouse out again to collapse the details.

Comment from Oliver Keyes edit

Gerard M appears to be listed as a "Community Liason". We have two Community Liasons (me and Maggie), two Community Managers (Steven and Maryana) and one Community Communications contractor (Rob S.). Given that people already get confused as to why Maggie and I do different jobs, can we avoid potentially directing them to staffers who are not working in remotely the same field? :). Comments regarding current version edit

These comments based on looking at <http://orgcharts.wmflabs.org:8890/#4fa2d7a6ac2ab48609000001/>.

  • Screen seems to go completely blank (all blue background) when options are adjusted; presumably this is when it's loading/re-rendering or something; should have some kind of user indicator (throbber or something)
  • "SF", "US", etc. don't seem to be defined anywhere; hover-over and maybe define explicitly in the sidebar
  • Employee, contractor, vacancy has a key, but doesn't seem to be implemented (everybody has a grey border)
    • Oh, I see. They're like train markers or something
    • Don't use English letters in there unless necessary
      • Localization!
    • Associate staff <--> role by changing border color instead, maybe?
  • Yellow highlight line only goes one level deep? weird; should either trace up to top or not at all
  • Vertical layout is an improvement, but overall viewing is still very painful on a laptop screen
  • Main interface seems to have non-functioning delete links (don't display unless user has permissions)
  • "Display sideways" and "Display printer-friendly" checkboxes aren't actual checkboxes for some reason (blue v. white is just silly)
  • Search highlights, but doesn't give any idea where the person actually is in the chart... browser find is much more useful here; maybe kill search feature?
  • Incorporate images of staff?
  • Incorporate useful metadata for staff (IRC name, e-mail address, other contact info)?
  • Requisition number seems stupid and I can't see much reason to expose it (is that the primary key?)
  • Truncated titles are annoying to read (they're nearly all truncated, I guess); use line-wrapping or something

That's probably enough for now. --MZMcBride (talk) 21:20, 31 May 2012 (UTC)Reply

Link Broken? edit

Hi, the link on the main page (http://orgcharts.wmflabs.org:8888/) doesn't seem to work. Is it available outside the WMF infrastructure? --Cneubauer (talk) 12:24, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Reply

Hi, sorry, the site is down pending me completing the eqiad migration. I'll let you know when it's back. --MarkTraceur (talk) 16:30, 19 March 2014 (UTC)Reply
