How to add different barnstars?

3
CT55555 (talkcontribs)

I would like to add a wider range of barnstar options, but I find the code intimidating. Could anyone help me?

I would specifically like

The Barnstar of Liberty #2

Human Rights Barnstar #1 and #2

The Peace Barnstar #2

The Global Warming and Climate change barnstar 1 and 2

The Environmental Barnstar

Closed Limelike Curves (talkcontribs)

I'd also like to know! Could we get the scholarly barnstar in here?

If I wanted this kind of intrusive nonsense on my page this post would be on Facebook. IMNSHO this cutesy rubbish has no place here. Wikimedia projets are serious work, not for social networking. This stuff should be an opt-in extra, not an "on by default" feature. I'm not an eight year old little girl who likes decorating her room with pink ponies! Yuck! Dodger67 16:54, 6 July 2011 (UTC)

No. I completely agree. It reminds of the stupid huggy Esperanza project (which got shut down).

TMg (talkcontribs)

I agree. The WikiLove comments are like spam. I don't want to receive such crap. Where is the opt-out setting?

Steven (WMF) (talkcontribs)

WikiLove are simply talk page edits assisted by a special interface. The only way to opt-out of talk page comments is to get your user talk page protected.

TMg (talkcontribs)

I don't want to "opt-out of talk page comments". I never said that. I want to disable this tool for my talk page. Simple.

MartinPoulter (talkcontribs)

The talk page messages that are added by WikiLove can still be added in other ways. The point of a tool like this is obviously to make things easier for new users, so having it disabled by default would defeat the purpose. You're free to delete unwelcome comments from your Talk page. The "social networking" comment is irrelevant. Thanking people for work they have done is not "social networking". It's just being nice and creating a welcoming atmosphere: something we seriously need to get sorted out in order to get help with all the serious work that needs doing.

TMg (talkcontribs)

Adding a "thank you" to my talk page is one thing. Throwing stupid kittens at me is an other thing. This is spam. I repeat: Where is the opt-out setting? At least let me disable the stupid images. Or simply redirect the people and help them add a new section to my talk page. Without the spam. Thank you.

Mathglot (talkcontribs)

You're not the only one. At a *minimum*, the box itself needs to have a link that explains how to remove it. it's also a forum for endless argumentation: I hate goats, but love brownies and trout, but we're all different. I love cats and I love kittens, but not in a dropdown at an encyclopedia; this feature should be drowned in a well, or at best, it should be opt-in (as in: "click here to Enable WikiLove tab". The fact that there isn't a one-click "disable" button is ridiculous. Mathglot (talk) 19:19, 18 October 2020 (UTC)

I think it would be preferable if the pop-up (upon clicking the heart on someones user page) for unregistered users, rather than saying "Note: This user is not registered, he or she may not notice this message." just used the pronoun "they" for simplicity.

Outdated barnstar style

Blaze Wolf (talkcontribs)

Hello! So I've been enjoying using the WikiLove extension. However, I noticed that the image for the barnstar in the extension uses the old and outdated design of the barnstar (which is still used by some people, but unselectable in the extension). Could this possibly be updated to the more recent barnstar design? Blaze Wolf (talk) 02:00, 9 March 2022 (UTC)

Hello everyone, I want to add a new barnstar to the local wiki (tr), can you help a bit with this?

The template I want to add: Template:The Patrol's Barnstar

Thanks!

Simple English Wikipedia

Sminthopsis84 (talkcontribs)

Can someone please tell me whether I'm on the right track with trying to understand how WikiLove might be deployed in the Simple English Wikipedia? I've been trying to follow various sets of instructions, and a discussion has started again in the Wiki that might lead to a consensus for requesting deployment (this has been discussed at some length before). Is the following correct?

Simple English has been started on translatewiki.net but isn't listed at MediaWiki.
(I'm able to select Simple English as a language, but there don't seem to be any translations with it on translatewiki.net.)
Simple English has not reached the 18%-translated point that is mentioned in the FAQ as a criterion for listing at MediaWiki.
Simple English may never reach that point because of its nature as a close relative of EN.
WikiLove cannot be deployed at Simple English until its WikiLove messages have been translated TranslateWiki, as mentioned on this page.

Therefore, the discussion should stop because WikiLove is not available to small projects like Simple English Wikipedia. Thanks for any advice, I'm quite lost here.

Sminthopsis84 (talkcontribs)

Thanks very much. Now that I have an account, I was able to enter translations by that round-about route.

Nemo bis (talkcontribs)

If you insist on doing so, however, I'll delete them. I already told you not to.

Sminthopsis84 (talkcontribs)

Wow, thank you, that gets me to the list! (However, I have so far been unable to make a signon for translatewiki.net because my translation record is non-existent, as it seems to be inevitable that it would be, since I don't have an account. I'll try again to make a signon.)

Quiddity (talkcontribs)

Ah, yeah. That wiki is not part of the Wikimedia wiki-farm/family, so you'll need to create a new account there. (A frequently confusing step :)

Sminthopsis84 (talkcontribs)

Indeed. :-( Some people have somehow managed to sign up, but all I get is email with "Thank you for applying as a translator at translatewiki.net. I regret to inform you that I have rejected your application, because the quality of your translations did not meet the requirements." Zero translations = inadequate quality, apparently. Of course, this is not the place to complain about that. Thank you for your reply.

Sminthopsis84 (talkcontribs)

I was given an account, perhaps as a result of this discussion, so was able to proceed.

Nemo bis (talkcontribs)

As implied by bugzilla:70612#c1, the localisation requirement there doesn't apply to the Simple English Wikipedia. The wiki's locale is "en", from MediaWiki's perspective, so you're all set. Sorry for the confusion!

Sminthopsis84 (talkcontribs)

Well, I'm completely lost and don't understand this at all. Now I have an angry message that I should not have proceeded with translating the messages. Clearly, translatewiki.net is beyond my comprehension. I'll see if I can find a way to have my account deleted.

Nemo bis (talkcontribs)

I'll try to be clearer. Quiddity was wrong, you don't need to translate anything to get this extension on simple.wiki. Ok?

Quiddity (talkcontribs)

(My apologies for confusing things. >.< )

Sminthopsis84, I believe the next step (once you have local consensus at simple:) is to file a bug, per steps 2 and 3 at m:Requesting wiki configuration changes. You should just need a Summary ("Enable WikiLove at Simple Wikipedia") and a link to the onwiki discussion. Hopefully Nemo can confirm or correct me.

Just wanted to say that it was a genius idea, it should be standard in WP! Thank you for creating and maintaining it!

Creation of new types / Transcluding instead of substituting

3
Klein Muçi (talkcontribs)

Hello!

In SqWiki we just activated the extension and we want to tweak it to satisfy our community's needs. We want to create our own types of WikiLove we can share in and make it so it trancludes the templates instead of substituting them. How can we make that? The page only describes how to do it for a single user and that doesn't work for the entire Wiki (the code does nothing when put at WikiLove.js page). We've already removed the original types by using the details mentioned at Extension:WikiLove#Removing items but adding new types for the entire project is not explained anywhere. I've already emailed @Kaldari for this problem where I've explained in details how the situation is and what are the reasons we want transclusion instead of substitution but he seems to be busy these days so I thought I should also ask here, hoping someone else can help me in the meantime.

Thank you! :)

How do I add the WikiLove extension to my UserTalk page?

This post was posted by Smlombardi, but signed as Stmullin.

Jorm (WMF) (talkcontribs)

Which wiki is your home wiki?

Note that you cannot see the extension on your own talk page. You can see it on other user's talk pages, however.
