Hi, how we can update WikiLove interface at Turkish Wikipedia?

Hello! I'm not sure how informed you are on JS but you can check the Albanian model which is currently the model which utilizes the most barnstars compared in a global scale with a fully automatic system:

You can check it in use by going to an user page there (for example, mine), pressing the red heart and seeing what happens.

If you're not familiar with JS yourself, you can ask whoever has interface administration rights on TrWiki. Or if you're up for a bit of a challenge, I can guide you make the needed changes.

If what I've sent above is not what you're looking for, please explain a bit better what do you mean with "WikiLove interface update". What is it that you want to change precisely? -

Barnstar and more icons are very old. It's not modern. I change this.

Hi all, As we see, the award is a manual action from a user on another user. This is completly subjective: "I give you this star because you are the best". Do that represent the health of the system? Why the system itself couldn't have an automatic generation of stars according to predefined criterias ? (ref. the sugar stars à la Candy crush). Personally it seems for me to work in the desert and some motivation, even coming from a machine, would be appreciated.

I noticed that there was no pizza template, which upset me (I love pizza), so I made one over at w:Template:Pizzapie. I was wondering if it would be possible to incorporate it into WikiLove; I believe that it could become quite popular. ;)

Recently we just activated the WikiLove extension in SqWiki. We just finished localizing it but there are two technical details which we'd like to change. We have only two interface admins (I'm one of those) and for the moment being, none of us knows hows to do these changes in the .js page. I thought I'd ask for help in the EnWiki interface admins and since I saw your name in that list and you've helped me in the past... :P Can I write what I need help with here? Yes, it does. We only want to change two small technical details, as I said. The first is regarding the template you just used. It's set up with a drop-down menu like with all other types of templates. But, unlike the other cases, this doesn't have subtypes. We tried setting it up as a type without subtypes but then the icon and description disappear. Is there any way to be just like it is only without a drop-down menu?

And secondly, please see the templates at "Medalje komunitetit" called "Medalje gjysmë D" and "Medalje gjysmë M". Those are the Albanian half stars awards. Those are the only templates that have a message form where the user can write, needed to put the name of the collaborator with whom they're sharing the award. We want to make the text (a hint) that appears at the message form disappear when the form is clicked and reappear if nothing was added to it or if it was emptied. How can we do that?

@Klein Muçi: I'm getting a little stuck on this, but would you like to try this on testwiki? The changes take about 10mins before they are usable, but you will be able to try without breaking your running wiki. Thank you but I'm not sure that would be a good idea. We don't have a very active community so breaking the wiki is not really a problem. I'm just not good enough with the JavaScript syntax and wouldn't know what to do there more than what I'm already doing at SqWiki. Maybe is better than nothing, I'm not sure as I've never used TestWiki before, so if that's the case, then yes, please do grant me access there. Maybe I can make it work by experimenting. Apart from Cyberpower, I've bothered him quite a lot about IABot lately. @Klein Muçi: it's OK. It looks like even our own local copy of MediaWiki:WikiLove.js has issues (e.g. the "Adding more kitten images" doesn't seem to actually do anything). @Kaldari: I've tried the aforementioned way. It ends up without a description or image at the second step, only showing the "preview" button. To many inexpert eyes, it looks broken like that and they keep pressing the type button to choose it, thinking their command hasn't been registered by the extension. That's why I asked if there's a way to make it without a drop-down menu while showing the description and image of the type. I understand there's not a way for that now so I'll leave it like that. What about the second question regarding the disappearing and reappearing of the text in the message form? If my explanation seems confusing, I'm talking about this: - Random link I searched on Google that seems to pinpoint the subject right. Isn't there a way to make the text in the message form disappear when clicked and reappear if it remains/becomes empty?

@Xaosflux: I've thought about that. The problem is that most of the changes I've made, were made with the trial and error method. :P And, although I can understand what I'm doing, I'm not able to explain it well enough for the others. That's why I set up the Portuguese Wikipedia as an example (since that was the one I copied the code from and started experimenting) and the Albanian one. I was hoping to at least help people with examples, if they ever needed them, or at least, urge some more experienced editors to write some good technical advice from the examples that were added. @Xaosflux: please, try to give me Medalje gjysmë D (found in Medalje komuniteti) with the extension. A form will follow with some text in Albanian on it saying to erase said text and replace it with a user's name. I just want that text to disappear automatically when the form is clicked and then reappear if nothing was written on it. So the one who is using the extension won't need to delete the text manually before writing the user's name. It's a very common thing in website these days. A message with text as a hint appears telling you what to do and disappears immediately as soon as you click on it and start writing (reappearing if the form was left empty again). I thought it would require no more than a line of javascript code and to be honest, I'm a little surprised I'm having difficulties explaining it. :P - Klein Muçi (talk) 01:51, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

@Klein Muçi: As soon as this patch gets merged, the description for stand-alone types will no longer be broken. Getting images to work properly for stand-alone types will be more complicated. There is currently no support for placeholders in WikiLove. Kaldari (talk) 13:36, 16 August 2019 (UTC)

For some reason this extension works for me when I use:

require_once "$IP/extensions/WikiLove/WikiLove.php";

instead of:

wfLoadExtension( 'WikiLove' );

even though I am using MediaWiki 1.26.2. Otherwise my Wiki gets broken.

The WikiLove form started displaying the licensing text in r101548. I've checked out that exact revision and enabled the extension, and it works perfectly for me. I then updated to the latest revision, and it still works (though I've discovered another issue unrelated to this one). I'm not sure why that's not working for you.

Navigate to MediaWiki:Wikilove-terms-link and MediaWiki:Wikilove-terms-url on your wiki. What is on those pages? It should be the same text as on this wiki.

MediaWiki:Wikilove-terms-link both here and on en.wikipedia says "terms" (just a word, not a link). MediaWiki:Wikilove-terms-url in both cases is a "bare URL" linking to wmf:Feedback privacy statement. 96.35.42.62 00:10, 10 December 2011 (UTC)

No, the software is supposed to do the work of creating the link from the text in wikilove-terms-link and the URL in wikilove-terms-url. The messages are the same here, and you can see it works on this wiki. The content of the messages aren't the issue here.

Maybe rebuild messages? I don't know if it will work, but it's worth a shot.

this may be a very old issue, but regardless what I configure in LocalSettings.php, no WikiLove icon is visible.

- My Wiki Server is behind a firewall, so I can't use $wgUseInstantCommons.

* Is this the issue? Is internet access needed?

Update: I did some tests debugging the WikiLove code. Here the results:

- in function: beforePageDisplay( $out, $skin )

* $skin->getTitle() returns 'Talk:<username>', which looks good.

* $skin->getUser() returns my username, good as well.

* $title is: "The username is not valid."

What can be wrong?

If I switch to my own Talk page, $title is: "You cannot send WikiLove to yourself. Sorry!"

In this case it looks like it works correct.

A couple of days ago I [https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=User_talk:Iryna_Harpy&diff=prev&oldid=667469188 gave] a user the 'Socratic Barnstar'.

I had expected to do so via the 'Wikilove' button on the Talk page, but as far as I can see the barnstar in question is not listed on the menu in the pop-up window.

Would it be possible to add this barnstar to the menu?

Hi, I've installed the extension, run the update (through the web, since I have no root access) and the extension seems to be working: at least, the checkbox in preferences appears. But if I check the box, as I visit an user page the server returns nothing. Other pages are ok.

THe production wiki is MW 1.19.11, but I have a local installation for tests wich works fine, and it's 1.24.

Does anybody knows if this is a known problem and how to make the extension run?

I've found the answer myself: the current version is MW 1.20+ compatible. So, I just used a previous version, compatible with the MW 1.19 version, wich is about to be updated, anyway. Now WikiLove is working.
