A mention of existing work on Maps

The Maps team in Discovery just enabled a pretty neat set of features for maps on Wikivoyage. Editors can now add interactive maps using a tag or even with VisualEditor. It's a work in progress but along the line of what is being talked about here. This post by Yuri on the maps mailing list goes into some more detail.

There's even a demo at http://vem3.wmflabs.org/wiki/Main_Page

I thought I'd share some of the existing work in an attempt to get more folks reading here engaged.

Indeed! I did mention that in my initial post, but I'm glad you supplied the link to the announcement -- I've now included the link in the main entry. It's great stuff -- just trying to ensure that various efforts are well connected. If they already are, maybe my suggestion is extraneous/redundant. -Pete F (talk) 21:25, 17 March 2016 (UTC)

@Peteforsyth This is a great place to include your suggestions. Thanks, Pete!

in MediaViewer and Wikipedia are tracked in T58666. (The latter is already possible but has poor performance.) MediaViewer is a poor interface for viewing maps, though. Kartographer is surely better suited for that.
