Git user issues

Trying to squash these bugs based on both https://wikimania2012.wikimedia.org/wiki/Hackathon/Laptop_setup/Linux_MediaWiki and this morning's git / gerrit tutorial (https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Git/Tutorial) has led to lots of conflict messages that I have no idea how to resolve.—The preceding unsigned comment was added by KevinCole (talkcontribs) 21:46, 10 July 2012

For newbies such as myself, the answer: The laptop setup suggests making a stable branch from the clone. However to work with the bugs listed on this page, one should switch back to the master via check out. So, the sequence is:

git clone https://gerrit.wikimedia.org/r/mediawiki/core.git wiki
cd wiki/
git checkout origin/REL1_19 -b mywiki
git checkout master
git pull origin master

Thanks, Asheesh

Potential improvements to this page

Kiwix mentioned to 1) Make instructions a separate page, less duplication of content with "How to become a MediaWiki hacker"; 2) make the areas boxes; 3) use MediaWiki extension BugzillaReports to show some lists of tickets directly embedded. --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 15:32, 3 July 2014 (UTC)

"Open"

The verb "open" in the link labels is rather ambiguous. I naturally expected a report form. Is there something wrong with saying "List" (or "List of")? Nemo 15:57, 22 May 2016 (UTC)

There is lot of phabricator links about "bug Report list" in this article. Each time, it is written that concerns bug reports and Enhancement requests. But I don't know how to see if in the list this is a bug or an Enhancement request. Is there a way to filter/switch between bug and Enhancement requests to improve lisibility and searches in phabricator ? Manta Ray DeeJay (talk) 10:05, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Sadly not, due to deficiencies in our Phabricator install. See phabricator:T102#11218. Nemo 10:08, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
@Manta Ray DeeJay: There is not, and I wonder why it would be relevant. Could you explain why exactly you care whether an easy task is about fixing a bug versus about adding some functionality? --AKlapper (WMF) (talk) 10:21, 16 June 2016 (UTC)
@AKlapper (WMF): I don't want to talk only for easy tasks but in a general way. I think working on a bug or an Enhancement request is quite different. I think it could be nice having a filter to select it. Manta Ray DeeJay (talk) 10:44, 16 June 2016 (UTC)

Note that these tasks to not have assigned mentors so you will be more "on your own". If you prefer to work on software projects with mentors, check out the list of software projects that we recommend. —Omotecho (talk) 03:09, 1 December 2017 (UTC)

Shouldn't these be called "good first tasks", now that we're on Phabricator rather than Bugzilla?
