Where to get Bugzilla extension
How does one install this lovely wiki version of bugzilla? I went to the bugzilla site and it only has their own GUI on it. I'd much rather use this lovely wiki GUI to interface with bugzilla. Davecotter 21:13, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- I remember finding a link to a download of the skin, but that was ages ago and I can't remember where it was (meta maybe?). Mind you, that was a long time ago, and I know Brion had to do some tweaking when he upgraded to v3.0 so the latest version may not be available. If you can't find it via Google or elsewhere then try pestering Brion, but make sure you've had a proper look first, as he's a busy man! --HappyDog 21:58, 28 August 2007 (UTC)
- I have the same problem here. The default skin looks awful (I will report this to the developers). I'd enjoy using the media-wiki-skin/template, if possible. Have you found out, where to get it?
I don't the internet refrence should be there(all your bug belong to me)--Arecus fan 15:57, 7 October 2007 (UTC)
I have looked again and still can't find any extension that integrates Bugzilla into my wiki. Is there an official page for this? Davecotter 00:14, 26 January 2009 (UTC)
Is it possible to get the template & skin used by mediawiki to customize bugzilla's look and feel... I would love to use it for my setup
Meta-bugs
This all very nice, and I want to add several suggestions, but I don't need yet an other user/password setup?
I will prefer to have a suggestion box embedded in this site rather than going to yet an other site. Sorry! :-) --Asset 19:02, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Alternatively implement bugzill.mediawiki.org ?
Suggestion lets make Extension:Suggestions for this?
- It's actually an email/password setup... but no at the Suggestions. Plus, there kinda already is an Extension requests page... --Skizzerz 19:25, 18 July 2008 (UTC)
Email addresses do not need to be public anymore
From: Bugzilla#Why must I register?: "Please note that (unlike on Wikimedia projects) your email address will be visible to everyone."
Registration is not the problem preventing more suggestions, discussions, and solutions concerning MediaWiki bugs and enhancements. Millions of people are now registered at Wikipedia, and via unified login they can now comment on any Wikimedia project without further registration.
In my opinion that should be extended to Bugzilla reporting and commenting. Since all these registered users have user talk pages, they can be contacted on their user talk pages. Their email does not need to be reported publicly anymore since we no longer need a separate registration system for Bugzilla.
I, and many others, can't report bugs because we don't want our email addresses public. Just like I don't want my real name public either. Every Bugzilla report or comment shows the email address of the poster. Why can't bugzilla.wikimedia.org use unified login instead? It is a wikimedia site. My unified login works here, too, at this mediawiki.org site. I am able to sign and timestamp this message.
Some people say that we can use a throwaway email address and a fake Bugzilla login name. I already use several email addresses. I don't want to create another one just for Bugzilla. I rarely check some of my other email addresses. I use some for email lists, and I only check them infrequently. So they would not be useful for Bugzilla.
Any email from a developer to one of my throwaway email addresses would be lost in the avalanche of email they already get. I don't want to post my good email address, because I don't want another email address ruined by tons of spam in the inbox due to it being public.
Wikipedia succeeded when it went from "expert" editing (by people using their real names) to broad editing by anyone willing to log in. Bugzilla reporting and commenting will do better too with unified login.
I use the Firefox browser. I have the same bug-reporting problem with Firefox. They probably did not hear about many problems with the beta versions of their Firefox 3 browser due to using bugzilla as their main form of bug reporting. See https://bugzilla.mozilla.org
I have not upgraded to Firefox 3 due to problems they introduced with Firefox 3. I use Firefox 2 still. I have tried reporting the Firefox 3 problems on their forums, but just like at Wikimedia one has to use Bugzilla if anyone is to pay some real attention.
I appreciate that the developers have limited time, and that some are unpaid, but I also have limited time, and work on this unpaid. Please let me and others report bugs, suggestions, and possible solutions.
Many of us have thousands of hours and edits on Wikipedia, the Commons, etc., and can point out problems with various enhancements, and proposed implementations of solutions for bugs. We can tell you from experience with previous attempts, software versions, related programs, etc.. --Timeshifter 07:51, 13 September 2008 (UTC)
- bugzilla:9872 "Option to mask email addresses" - resolved LATER (not sure if this was ever reported
- bugzilla:14487 "add Bugzilla to unified login :P" - resolved WONTFIX which seems a bit surprising.

- Thanks for the info and links. I must have stopped checking the MediaWiki watchlist after a few months. Otherwise, I would have responded sooner. Please see the related talk section below:

Can't login to my bigzilla account
Hello, as above I can't do that because I got an error "The username or password you entered is not valid." My login is patrol110. Changing password doesn't make any difference.
I'd like to report a bug that few mintes ago I can't remove a photo from pl.wiki due to server problems. I got something like this:Wystąpił błąd składni w zapytaniu do bazy danych. Może to oznaczać błąd w oprogramowaniu. Ostatnie, nieudane zapytanie to:
(ukryto zapytanie SQL)
wysłane przez funkcję „LocalFileDeleteBatch::doDBDeletes”. MySQL zgłosił błąd „1205: Lock wait timeout exceeded; Try restarting transaction (10.0.6.23)”.
The problem appeared with this action. Patrol110 18:33, 19 May 2009 (UTC)
How about a feature request area of the wiki
Maybe if there was a way to request features here on the wiki it would encourage more people to participate. Certainly if coders choose not to look at features requested here on the wiki they wouldn't have to. Perhaps some people might just be too lazy or unmotivated to go over to Bugzilla and spend the time filling out forms to put their idea out there. Dunno for sure, just a thought... Wikademia
Bugzilla email, and unified watchlist for minor wikimedia projects
This is similar to the bugzilla problem of public email addresses. See higher up:
People ask us to participate more in these minor wikis, and then ignore our requests to make it possible. See the NOTFIX result in the Bugzilla email section higher up.
I rarely check watchlists outside of the 2 main ones I use for Wikipedia and the Commons.
So I don't even notice replies to my comments here at MediaWiki.org
Especially since comments can arrive months later long after I stop checking. So I come back 3 to 6 months after the last time I checked, and I see a reply. Long after there is any real possibility of dialog. Since other people also have the same problem of separate watchlists for every minor wiki.
We need a unified watchlist for combining the minor Wikimedia wikis such as:
- Mediawiki.org
- Strategy Wiki
- Wikiversity
- Meta
We should be able to pick which wikis to combine into one unified watchlist. Outside of the Wikipedia and Commons watchlists. Those are too busy to add the server load of combining watchlists.
The above wikis are those where I have edited or left comments at. I don't check them often enough though to have real discussions and shared collaborative editing. It is too much trouble. Just as it is for most people.
Contact me at my Commons user talk page if you want my immediate attention.
Otherwise this will be just another discussion thread lost in minor-wiki cyberspace. --Timeshifter 23:19, 19 October 2009 (UTC)
- It is possible now to set one's email options in preferences. So that one can receive email when a followed page or talk page is edited.
- There is some work on global, integrated watchlists. See Wikipedia:Global watchlist. --Timeshifter (talk) 11:50, 12 April 2012 (UTC)
Bugzilla needs to stop requiring or, at the very least, stop making public, email addresses
Bugzilla needs to stop requiring email addresses. Or at the least, it needs to stop making those email addresses public. Requiring email addresses and making them public are both contrary to the practice of the majority of WikiMedia projects.
What disturbs me most is seeing how this issues has been repeatedly marked "resolved" when it is not, despite multiple users bringing it up:
- Bugzilla:148 RESOLVED FIXED — No, it's not fixed. The email addresses are still visible to anyone or any bot logged in.
- Bugzilla:9872 RESOLVED DUPLICATE — Marking this as a resolved duplicate doesn't make sense when the problem in the supposed "duplicate" wasn't ever fixed in the first place.
- Bugzilla:14487 RESOLVED WONTFIX — Won't fix? Why not? No explanation is given.
Despite the issue being brought up numerous times by multiple users, it keeps getting ignored and improperly or unreasonably marked as resolved.
—Lowellian (talk) 18:04, 23 May 2010 (UTC)
- I absolutely second this. To make matters worse, you can't change your mail address in your account after is has been confirmed. Where can I talk to an admin to change or delete my account? Does the bugzilla admin has his own e-mail address? 178.25.238.143 23:49, 19 November 2011 (UTC)
User Registration
Maybe I have overseen something, but registering as a new user didn't work for me. At the login screen, there was no "create account" option. Passwort/User from mediawiki.org did not work. (There is no mention, that is should work, anyway. I just assumed it). The Link that should explain how to register on this page: Bugzilla at the "How do I register?" section, leads to https://bugzilla.wikimedia.org/createaccount.cgi which ends up with the message "User account creation has been disabled. New accounts must be created by an administrator. The maintainer is noc@wikimedia.org".
Should I really bother the maintainer as mentioned there? Thanks in advance --Francishunger 09:44, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Yes, for now really bug the administrator. We're having an issue with bugspam so please bear with the restriction for now. Thanks. -- ArielGlenn 10:00, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
- Thanks Ariel for the fast reply.--Francishunger 10:37, 26 November 2011 (UTC)
How to hide your email address on Bugzilla
See:
Sandbox for Bugzilla comments
Bugzilla:39828 - Sandbox for MediaWiki-style internal links within Bugzilla comments. Tests were done there for various link formats.
Tests were done for section links too. You can see for yourself what works by clicking the MediaWiki-style section links in Bugzilla:39828. Do not add more comments to this Bugzilla thread unless absolutely necessary. Add new comments only to test types of links not already tested in the thread. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:32, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
Bugzilla and section links
MediaWiki-style section links do not work in Bugzilla comments. Click the MediaWiki-style section links in my first comment in Bugzilla:39828. You will see that they do not arrive at the section. They go to the top of the linked page. --Timeshifter (talk) 09:24, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Please follow the instructions. They do work and I use them regularly. Thanks, Nemo 09:30, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Show me one please. Use the bugzilla thread so others can see too. --Timeshifter (talk) 09:50, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Why can't you just follow the instructions instead? Anyway, bugzilla:31680#c4, bugzilla:9360#c7 etc. (visit ur1.ca/a2qpo). --Nemo 10:19, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Neither one of those examples takes you to the section. In one of the examples there is no longer that section on that page: bugzilla:31680#c4. It must have been archived. At bugzilla:9360#c7 the link takes you to the top of the page, and not to the section. But that may be because it is a short page.

- I see what you are doing now. Here is another test: Bugzilla:39828#c4. It worked. It takes me to the section. The wikitext is this:
[[mw:Bugzilla#Website_links_within_Bugzilla_comments]]
- The underlying link on Bugzilla is:
- A weird thing I noticed is that all the internal links in the Bugzilla comments use Special:Search to take one to the page. For example; at bugzilla:9360#c7 the underlying link is this:
- A mixed format for section links also works. See Bugzilla:39828#c5. The link is in this format
[[Wikipedia:Bug reports and feature requests#Links_from_within_Bugzilla]]

- Yes, nothing strange here. Had you followed the instructions, it would have worked from the start. --Nemo 15:29, 31 August 2012 (UTC)
- Your instructions are not clear. That is why I was rewriting them. Furthermore, they use a non-standard way of using wikitext to create internal links. --Timeshifter (talk) 01:51, 1 September 2012 (UTC)

(unindent). Nemo. Concerning Bugzilla. See this diff. This is getting ridiculous. You are just guessing. You are reverting accurate info. Your edit comment was "+technically: the section link has to be URL-encoded (at least, I think; unless it's a compromise between PAGENAMEE encoding and urlencoding)."
Anyway, Bugzilla uses Special:Search for the links. See my previous comments. Run tests at Bugzilla:39828 sandbox before posting guesses and possibly incorrect information. Rather than delete my accurate info, only remove the incorrect parts, if any. And only after you are sure. --Timeshifter (talk) 16:54, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- I've no idea what you're talking about. Your information was thouroughly wrong, mine is correct; I just don't know whether the most super-precise name for that is the generic "percent-encoded" or the specific "urlencoded", but both are specified on the linked manual page. Of course I know about Special:Search, I already had to correct a mistake you introduced when you didn't know it. --Nemo 17:18, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- If you don't know what I am talking about, then that shows you are ignorant. None of the info I added today is incorrect. None of the info in the old diff you linked to is incorrect. In fact, it is the same info in a different format. You just reformatted it.
- Concerning your link to Manual:PAGENAMEE encoding. You wanted to add that link. That does not tell the average reader how to make a working section link though on Bugzilla. That info is for MediaWiki, not Bugzilla. That is why I removed it. Anyway, Bugzilla is not creating direct links to a page. It is actually using Special:Search to find the page and section link. That is not dependent on Manual:PAGENAMEE encoding.
- The info I added specifically told readers how to create a section link that works on Bugzilla. Bugzilla does not use standard MediaWiki internal linking for section links. You just don't seem to understand this.
- See this diff. You wrote "Linking test pages is not suitable from a help page; you can add details to the linked manual page if you want." I did not link to test pages. You are just blindly reverting. --Timeshifter (talk) 18:19, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
- No. The manual page is relevant; your information is not correct to (always) produce working links. --Nemo 18:21, 11 September 2012 (UTC)
(unindent). It does not make sense to many people. Bugzilla is supposed to be a help page. The page you link to (URL-encoded) is not very helpful. It lists at least 3 different methods for URL encoding. None of that info provides practical help for someone trying to create links in Bugzilla. The info on MediaWiki-style internal links in your version of the Bugzilla page is confusing. Also, you are not a native English speaker, and so you are not the best judge of how to write something that is easily understood in English.
In any case, Bugzilla is not MediaWiki. Bugzilla was adapted to use some MediaWiki internal linking. But Bugzilla is not following standard MediaWiki coding. See the links in Bugzilla:39828. Bugzilla lets the brackets show. Bugzilla does not use standard section links. Piped links do not work.
Also, Bugzilla uses Special:Search. MediaWiki does not convert internal links into search links. That is Bugzilla. Look at the Special:Search in the links I previously listed above. Here are some more underlying URLs below from Bugzilla:39828. Note Special:Search in the URLs:
- https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Special:Search&go=Go&search=Wikipedia:Bug%20reports%20and%20feature%20requests
Here is some possible info below to add to the Bugzilla page. It is much clearer than your version. It explains exactly how to create a section link that will always work.
Standard MediaWiki-style internal links are partially supported. By default they point to English Wikipedia. Language prefixes are supported. For example;
Using a piped link to get a different link name does not work.
Standard MediaWiki-style section links do not work. For example; this standard section link ends up being a link to the top of the page, and not to the section:
There is a way to make working section links in Bugzilla without having to use the full URL. Copy the URL from the location bar of your browser, and add brackets around part of it. This works:
