Wikibooks

edit

As this is becoming more and more textbook-like, I'd like to import it to Wikibooks, where it can be integrated and linked with other texts, such as Linux Guide, which will be very helpful to readers.  — Mike.lifeguard | @en.wb 15:09, 22 January 2010 (UTC)Reply

It should go somewhere else, that's for sure. If not Wikibooks, maybe Wikiversity or MediaWiki.org. Meta-wiki needs to be depopulated of stuff that applies to MediaWiki installations in general (rather than just Wikimedia projects). Also, isn't the name "Pywikipediabot" kinda misleading, since it can be used on other wikis? Tisane 22:13, 8 April 2010 (UTC)Reply
Yes, I'll be renaming it to "Pywikibot"  — mikelifeguard@meta:~$  01:54, 22 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
As the pywikibot is in Wikimedia SVN (and therefore pertains more closely to the MediaWiki software than to the encylcopædia collection itself) it would appear that {{MoveToMediaWiki }} is the most suitable fate for this. I've updated the templating accordingly. --Carlb 20:17, 26 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
It may be a moot point, as Mike.lifeguard moved it to b:Pywikibot. Adrignola 18:35, 27 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
often the technically correct name is trumped by the most used name. PyWikipediaBot is in fact the most commonly used name, therefore I feel it should remain PyWikipediaBot. Adamtheclown 18:36, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

Login issues

edit

When trying to login (login.py) I am asked for the password for the relevant user. I supply this. It then asks for the CAPTCHA solution. I enter this. It then tells me that Login failed. Obvious answer is I am entering one or the other incorrectly. However, I have tried many times. I have changed my password on the wiki and then retried. Same result. Am I coming up against a known issue? Apart from entering wrong answers, which I am sure I am not doing, is there another reason that I cannot log in?88.108.210.61 08:58, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Have you tried updating the framework to the latest version? --Mercy 09:00, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have not...In fact mine is at least 18 months old....you think that might be the issue?88.108.210.61 10:04, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply
I have new version now. However still issues. I get the following:

When I check both the Index.php and the api.php files two things are apparent. First, they are at:

http://fightingfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Index.php and http://fightingfantasy.wikia.com/wiki/Api.php

respectively (i.e. not w/index.php)

and second, neither of them have content. Whereas if you were to check http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Index.php it is the MainPage (and http://starwars.wikia.com/wiki/Api.php does nto exist).

Does anyone know what I need to do from here?88.108.210.61 11:38, 5 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Login problem

edit

I have a problem with my bot , when I am asked for the password I put it correctly , it returns with wrong password CAPTCHA answer , I have downloaded up to date versions and the login.py , still getting Login failed. Wrong password or CAPTCHA answer. I would be very grateful for any help.--Ghaly 06:43, 5 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

I'm getting this too, and would be grateful for a solution. Olaf Davis 21:08, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply
Er, not that this is the right place to ask for one... Olaf Davis 21:11, 7 June 2010 (UTC)Reply

redirecting all script talk pages and textbook talk pages to this page?

edit

I think in the case of talk pages, everything being in one place is the best. Adamtheclown 18:37, 15 November 2010 (UTC)Reply

The Azerbaijanians alphabet

edit

During operation, when typing on "cmd.exe" is a problem only with the letters "ə" and "Ə" (letters of the alphabet in Azerbaijan). How can I solve this problem? Sincerely, Vago 15:51, 30 May 2011 (UTC)Reply

This has apparently moved

edit

Apparently last year sometime some of the pywikipedia bot pages were copied to mediawiki without any discussion or notice apparent here. See e.g. mw:Pywikipediabot. Pywikipediabot is maintained on mediawiki, so it's probably the better place. But this isn't the normal way to migrate pages and only some of them were moved. Fortunately, not a lot of changes have been made, but some have. We need to compare and replace the pages here with the redirects/tags. Also, we need to figure out what to do about the references to the non-English versions. None are referenced on mw.--Doug.(talk contribs) 20:44, 16 November 2011 (UTC)Reply

A lot more changes were made here than I thought, fortunately not so many at mw. There was discussion above and some content was already moved but only a handful of pages. Some content was also moved to wikibooks but not all and it's that project's decision whether to duplicate the official documentation. Several developers here and at mw are in agreement (see comments above and page history of reversions of the {{MoveToMediaWiki }} additions and removals, as well as my clear statement of intent at my request on MW, additionally, comments from devs on irc supported that this needs to be at mw. Thus I'm moving all the pages to their corresponding page names at MW, beginning immediately.--Doug.(talk contribs) 10:54, 4 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

This duplicates meta:Pywikipediabot (which seems much more complete, esp meta:Pywikipediabot/Scripts). Seems obvious that one should be a soft redirect to the other. --Chriswaterguy 15:24, 22 January 2011 (UTC)Reply

Migration to mw

edit

I'm reimporting all the pages that are here as they have been edited on meta. A few have been edited here as well and thus have merger issues to be resolved, I list them below. Unlike prior migration I will migrate all of the pages and replace the pages on meta with redirects to here. However, this may take me several days.--Doug 18:34, 4 December 2011 (UTC)Reply

Status

edit
  • All pages that were previously imported have been reimported.
  • All pages that were reimported have been tagged on meta with {{MovedToMediaWiki }}
  • Moving pages here to Manual, see below, before migrating the rest to avoid further confusion.

Move to Manual

edit

Moving these pages all to [[Manual:|Manual namespace]] to be consistent with other tools before I import the rest of the pages

Complication

edit

This is very complicated for me. I downloaded Python and package/pywikipedia/pywikipedia-nightly.zip, but I'm still very confused. The IRC channel isn't helping. The tutorials aren't. WP Randomno (talk) 16:11, 26 April 2012 (UTC)Reply
