Merge WP:Keyboard shortcuts with this page

edit

I'd suggest merging the best aspects of this page, and en:Wikipedia:Keyboard shortcuts (which appears to have no equivalent here on mediawikiwiki).

Also, VisualEditor/Portal/Keyboard shortcuts should be mentioned in a see also.

(I don't use Keyboard shortcuts much, so am not inclined to work on a merge myself.) –Quiddity (talk) 01:52, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

30 seconds later, I find m:Help:Keyboard shortcuts. >.< I guess that's meant to be the master documentation page. mutter meta mutter ;) –Quiddity (talk) 01:54, 31 January 2014 (UTC)Reply

Effectively orphaned page

edit

This manual page is not linked to from Manual:Interface nor any other "Manual:" or "Help:" page on this wiki. It is only redirected to from each individual "Manual:Interface/Accesskey-*" page title (none of which are linked to). A very curious situation, indeed. Should this be abandoned and the title soft-redirected to m:Help:Keyboard shortcuts, which seems to have gotten more attention, or should we just add links to it from other appropriate pages and continue to improve it? (Figured I'd ask here, so those watching the page can weigh in first. If no one responds here, I will ask at Project:Current issues.) - dcljr (talk) 21:51, 7 January 2021 (UTC)Reply

Move page?

edit

@Quiddity and Dcljr: I think this page should be moved to Manual:Access keys and the Meta page at meta:Help:Keyboard shortcuts should be emptied of the bulk of its content and just direct to this page for the actual lists of access keys. What do you think? — Sam Wilson 09:09, 8 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Re: This page's title – I'm not sure... It kinda looks like this Manual page is intended for developers, whereas the meta-wiki Help page is intended for users?
Re: the meta-page contents – I think it ought to be migrated to this wiki, as the contents there seem more detailed & useful than the minimal table we have here now. (plus m:Help:Contents says the contents of those Help pages are being "progressively moved to" here.) But perhaps it ought to be at Help:Keyboard shortcuts (currently a redirect to meta)? Although... then we have the licensing problem (Help pages here are CC0). :-/ Maybe we can migrate the tabular-data, but not the prose? Docs are at Project:PD help. HTH! –Quiddity (talk) 02:47, 9 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Quiddity: Good point about the licensing. I think for now I'm most interested in helping developers, so might just start work on Manual:Access keys (and later get to Help:Keyboard shortcuts, writing it from scratch). I'm not really sure why the Manual:Interface/Accesskey-* pages exist (there are a bunch of them), but oh well. :) I also want to do something about adding accesskeys to Module:ExtensionJson so they can be displayed on Extension pages. Not sure how to handle the non-accesskey ones (as in, the ones that are custom keypress handlers). — Sam Wilson 09:00, 10 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Samwilson: All redirects at Special:WhatLinksHere/Manual:Interface/Access keys are now double-redirects. Are you going to fix those, or should I? - dcljr (talk) 00:23, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply
@Dcljr: Yes, sorry! I will fix them today. Sam Wilson 00:30, 14 April 2022 (UTC)Reply

Cleaned up after prior name

edit

I've moved what was previously at Manual talk:Interface/Access keys to this page and converted the translations of the old page to redirects to Manual:Access keys so they don't become orphaned. * Pppery * it has begun 16:20, 7 June 2022 (UTC)Reply

Return to "Access keys" page.
