Machine translation is a reason for speedy deletion in some language versions
editI see one problem with this extension. There are language versions in which machine translations get speedy deleted. Therefor such an extension does make sense only for people who would act responsible with texts the tool would help to create. --Matthiasb (talk) 20:17, 20 September 2014 (UTC)
- From the initial usability tests we did with some basic prototypes, this seems to be one of the main concerns from the community and we have been working to address it as much as possible with our tool. We currently keep track of how much users are modifying the initial automatic translation we provide and provide a warning when they are adding a lot of unmodified translation text to inform that the purpose of the tool is to produce quality content by improving those initial translations. We also plan to tag such articles if they get published so that the community could easily deal with them. In addition, the paragraph-by-paragraph approach also encourages users not to start with an automatic translation for the full article as some similar tools do but focus on crafting a good paragraph at a time. Note that currently users are able to create new articles by adding any content and it is out of our control to determine if this content is from an unmodified machine translation, so I think that the tool represents an improvement over the current situation in this regard. Having said that, we are working with communities as we enable new languages to keep track on the impact of the tool since the quality of machine translation varies from language to language. -- Pginer-WMF (talk) 16:18, 13 November 2014 (UTC)
