Initiative Vision

Vision:
  • Provide a standard image API interface for libraries, archives and museums
  • Plug WMF content into a standardized GLAM ecosystem
Target Group(s):
  • Librarians
  • Archivists
  • Museum staff
  • GLAM-focused developers
 Needs:
  • Access to WMF images and other media
  • Standard interface that GLAM client tools can use
  • A standard interface for building new tools
 Product:
  • IIIF standard API for Wikimedia Commons images
 Aligned Goals:
  • (Platform Evolution) support for the integration and discoverability of rich content including video, audio, and interactive media, as well as the infrastructure to serve it with high performance, high redundancy, and low latency to all parts of the world.
  • (Platform Evolution) high-quality and accessible tooling for technical and content contributors, curators and collaborators
  • (Thriving Movement) strengthen strategic collaboration with existing key allies and grow and diversify its network of partners engaged in open knowledge work.
