Translate

Wikimedia's software is translated to hundreds of languages using the Translate extension for MediaWiki. In addition, it is used to translate help pages, newsletters, policies, announcements, banners, etc. It is installed on Wikimedia special projects, translatewiki.net and many other sites. Translate is part of MLEB. Improvements made in the last month include:

• Fix rare JavaScript DataCloneError on Special:Translate (task T283828, Gerrit change 719099)
• Special:PageMigration inserts comma instead of new line (task T274715, Gerrit change 718937)
• Breaking change: Remove translation aids customization (Gerrit change 715939)
  • Hook TranslateTranslationAids has been removed
• The page translation language list should use HTML list instead of literal bullet points (task T280742,Gerrit change 718862)
• moveTranslatablePage script: Make moving of sub pages the default (Gerrit change 721821)
• PageTranslation: Prevent non-wikitext pages from being marked for translation (task T163254,Gerrit change 718014)
• Translatable Page Move: Remove custom target page exists check (task T284116, Gerrit change 710300)
• MovePage: Add support for moving talkpages (task T41023, Gerrit change 709102)
• Breaking change: Remove getConfiguration and getFFS from MessageGroup (Gerrit change 715946)
• Optimizations towards fixing DBPerformance warning "Query returned XXXX rows: query: SELECT * FROM `translate_metadata`" on Meta-Wiki (task T204026, patches)
• QueryTranslationStatsActionApi: Increase max value for days (Gerrit change 720919)
• Remove language attribute for Translate link on source page (task T286110, Gerrit change 720664)
• translate.editor: use editfont in sourcemessage & editor (Fixes task T719641, Gerrit change 719641)
• Add %MESSAGE_URL% placehodler for support params (Gerrit change 724701)
• SECURITY: Allow revdel-related actions in translatable page (task T286884, Gerrit change 725385)
• QueryMessageCollection: Warn if source language is disabled (Fixes task T217727, Gerrit change 723813)

Universal Language Selector

Universal Language Selector provides language selector, list of suggested languages, input methods and web fonts. It is part of MLEB. Notable changes made include,

• Language button should prevent default click behavior (task T283757, Gerrit change 715793)
• Language button icon/button should be consistent with other buttons (task T289630, Gerrit change 715268)
• Localisation and maintenance updates.

MediaWiki Language Extension Bundle

The MediaWiki language extension bundle (MLEB) provides an easy way to bring ultimate language support to your MediaWiki. The bundle is a collection of a selected few MediaWiki extensions needed by any wiki which desires to be multilingual.

MLEB 2021.07 was released in July, 2021. Please see the release notes for a list of changes. Next release will be in October, 2021.

MediaWiki core internationalization

Changes to translations and equivalent localisation data (magic words, namespace names) are not included in this list. The volunteer translators are updating translations every day to keep up with changes.
