Content Translation edit

Updates from the ongoing development and deployment for Content Translation.

Development Update edit

  • The link system is rewritten and now translators can create red links in translation. The workflow of adding links was improved especially to support translation from scratch. Editing content with links is more easy in RTL too. Users will soon able to add any kind of links to translation.
  • Support for translating <poem> and galleries added.
  • The translation dashboard is improved and its design was polished.
  • Translators will get Echo based notifications on their first, tenth and hundredth translation to encourage to do more translations. (https://twitter.com/Kippelboy/status/616833935310520320)
  • Several bug fixes based on the feedback by beta-feature users. Especially support for working with right-to-left languages is now good.
  • Migrated to JSON configuration based extension registration.
  • The Special:CXStats analytics page was extended and polished. It represents the core metrics.
  • Published articles are automatically linked via Wikidata.

Updates from Translate, Universal Language Selector, MLEB and other projects.

Development Update edit

  • Translate extension saw a usual number (15) of maintenance commits and bug fixes. Highlights include TTMServer translation memory speed up by phoenix303 as part of Outreachy program as well as work towards solving an issue that causes waves of database errors (T102229) on Wikimedia sites.
  • The configuration repository for translatewiki.net has been active, including addition of two new projects, maintenance to existing projects and partially rewritten repository management scripts by Niklas. Translatewiki.net is an independent project supporting interface translations for many open source projects including MediaWiki.
  • Universal Language Selector's UI is getting migrated to mediawiki.ui style. The extension is also migrated to JSON based extension registration.

Usage Data edit

  • MLEB was not released this month. Latest release, 2015.04, has been downloaded 213 times so far, which is more than other releases in almost a year. 19 public wikis are using a MLEB released in 2015 according to Wikiapiary.
  • Translatable pages: Meta 1818; MediaWiki.org 2433; Commons 382
  • Translate extension is installed to 17 Wikimedia and 173 other public wikis, according to Wikiapiary

  • Content Translation has been deployed in the following Wikipedias during June. Except English wikipedia, Content Translation is available in every other Wikipedia now. Content translation will be enabled as beta feature in English wikipedia soon.
