Logo proposal
editHey, It seems your proposal is the clear frontrunner for mediawiki logo. Thank you! Do you mind creating more variants (like lower number of petals, different wordmarks like "MediaWiki" (and combinations of these variants). I know it would be a lot of variants but maybe we can avoid Black and white to reduce cases. Looking forward to seeing it in the next round! Ladsgroup (talk) 20:48, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks ) Yes, of course, I will do it within a couple of days. Serhio Magpie (talk) 21:11, 10 September 2020 (UTC)
- I created a page with new variants of wordmarks - User:Serhio Magpie/Logo proposal. Number of petals dependents of type, smaller logo has less. Let me know if there's anything else needed. Serhio Magpie (talk) 23:55, 12 September 2020 (UTC)
- Thanks. I will build a voting tool for that next weekend. Thanks. Ladsgroup (talk) 03:55, 13 September 2020 (UTC)
- You can test the voting gadget in https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/User:Ladsgroup/Round_2?withJS=MediaWiki:Gadget-logo-voting.js (on desktop). Ladsgroup (talk) 17:37, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Cool, works very well. Serhio Magpie (talk) 21:01, 19 September 2020 (UTC)
- Okay, the second variant has won \o/ You probably need to transfer its copyright to WMF so we would be able to use it as the logo (also we need to wait for a month for legal clearance before proceeding) Ladsgroup (talk) 12:24, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hi, thanks. Yes of course, what should I do? Serhio Magpie (talk) 18:23, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- I assume @CRoslof (WMF) knows. Ladsgroup (talk) 18:27, 26 October 2020 (UTC)
- I make sure the copyright is transferred (by pinging people :D). In the mean time, if you're not that busy, can you write down a document on the design decisions (like what does it mean, what it stands for, etc.) and some some sort of guideline for derivative logos (wikitech, technical wishes team, etc.) so they stay consistent in the future (if possible) would be great! Thanks. Ladsgroup (talk) 18:41, 31 October 2020 (UTC)
- Hello! Can you please tell me how the rights to the logo will be transferred? :) Iniquity (talk) 01:42, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
- Or @CRoslof (WMF) can help with it? :) Iniquity (talk) 01:45, 23 November 2020 (UTC)
- Sorry, i've been busy at these weeks and each day postponed work on document on tomorrow, oops. I'll try to do something this weekend. Serhio Magpie (talk) 18:25, 19 November 2020 (UTC)
- @Serhio Magpie: Thank you for contributing your proposal to the logo selection process! Please send me an email (my address is on my user page) so that we can sort out the necessary transfer of rights. CRoslof (WMF) (talk) 00:13, 26 November 2020 (UTC)

Default logo for new installs?
editHey, I wonder if you have any good ideas for what the default logo for new MediaWiki installs could look like. Currently we use https://github.com/wikimedia/mediawiki/blob/master/resources/assets/change-your-logo.svg which is both garish and wrong (since $wgLogo is deprecated). I think we should get rid of the text, and make the logo a variant of the MediaWiki logo you designed. ATDT (talk) 20:43, 15 July 2022 (UTC)
