GSOC as a recruiting tool

edit

Max, the reason we did GSOC when I was CTO was in effect to "preview" the working style and team dynamics of students as potential future paid contributors to WMF funded projects. It would be a useful thing to review whether that was successful. FWIW, part of what convinced me that RobLa would be a great Director was his management of the 2009 involvement in GSOC, likewise Sumana in 2010. Remember there are lots of reasons why organizations get involved with GSOC. Gaining useful code isn't usually very high on the list.

Student retention

edit

Max, could you perhaps add an axis for student retention? I'm thinking about http://www.slideshare.net/lhawthorn/lca-final-11148160 . Sumana Harihareswara, Wikimedia Foundation Volunteer Development Coordinator 18:29, 6 February 2012 (UTC)Reply

Translate

«Although Extension:Translate is not used on WMF wikis, its use on Translatewiki is absoultely crucial for us.» Now it's in fact used on WMF wikis. Also, was it part of the 1 used extension or was it a +1? --Nemo 16:38, 30 March 2012 (UTC)Reply

I assume its the one used extension. None of the other extensions from that year were used by WMF. The 2 succesful projects for that year were (presumably) translation, and the maps extensions. (The maps extensions are used quite a bit outside of wmf land) Bawolff (talk) 18:11, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
