You get this message because you are an admin on a Wikimedia wiki.

When someone edits a Wikimedia wiki without being logged in today, we show their IP address. As you may already know, we will not be able to do this in the future. This is a decision by the Wikimedia Foundation Legal department, because norms and regulations for privacy online have changed.

Instead of the IP we will show a masked identity. You as an admin will still be able to access the IP. There will also be a new user right for those who need to see the full IPs of unregistered users to fight vandalism, harassment and spam without being admins. Patrollers will also see part of the IP even without this user right. We are also working on better tools to help.

We have two suggested ways this identity could work. We would appreciate your feedback on which way you think would work best for you and your wiki, now and in the future. If I want to use HTTP credentials in Gerrit instead of SSH keys, is generating a new password the only solution when I want to push a commit? I ask this question because I can't find any settings using which to change my current password. My current password (which has been generated by the system automatically) is impossible to remember. So, I have to generate a single-use password every time, and I think this is not optimal.

@4nn1l2 Hello, using HTTPS to push commits is indeed not optimal :-). Doing a HTTPS push is less secure, because with HTTPS, the password needs to be exchanged with the server (while with SSH, it's only a matter of verifying signatures; there's nothing to leak).

It's possible to store the password locally in a .netrc file, see https://confluence.atlassian.com/bitbucketserver/permanently-authenticating-with-git-repositories-776639846.html for instructions, but note this is less secure than using a SSH key protected by a passphrase (if I have your .netrc file, I can do things on your behalf at Gerrit; if I have your encrypted SSH key, I first need to figure out the password [which is a matter of time, but still buys you some time, especially with a decent passphrase]).

Actually, I'm writing a help page for Farsi speakers (fa:راهنما:گیت) and I'm going to keep it as simple as possible. I hoped I could avoid SSH key and git-review, but they are covered now too.

By the way, I have read Gerrit/git-review#What happens when you submit a change, but still don't get it what the benefit of using git-review is besides filling in topic in Gerrit automatically.

Using git push origin HEAD:refs/for/master%topic=T292685 instead of git review -R is not difficult for me.

So my question is: does git-review make works easier on your part (i.e., sysadmins)?

git review is a wrapper around native git commits (with some Gerrit-awareness; ie. it can construct correct commit for pulling a Gerrit patchset). The only thing we care about is a correct patch in Gerrit: the exact way how it gets there doesn't matter to us. So if using commands native to git is easier for you, no problem, and you can continue using them :).

Okay, so let’s say a bunch of sub tasks need to be edited to give it let’s say, a priority of lowest/low/normal/high/UBN, it would not be easy for a singular person to edit the 74 tasks/sub tasks at once, so that’s what I want to help with. I will make sure that there is enough discussion for the bulk edit to be done.

I've done some looking around, but couldn't find any documentation on how server-side uploads to Commons are performed. Is there some particular tool(s)/maintenance script(s) used for this purpose? Is it actually documented somewhere already, and my search-fu simply failed?

(To be clear, I'm asking about this for a non-WMF wiki.)

Can this file be wordmark for trwikiquote. Can it be abnormal because the aspect ratio is slightly different? Or is it visible without any problems?

Hello there, I do not think that changes of visual appearance would be accepted. However, I'm not the one who decides about that. Maybe @Jon (WMF) would know who to ask on that?

https://en.wikipedia.org/static/images/mobile/copyright/wikipedia-wordmark-tr.svg is visually similar to https://en.wikipedia.org/static/images/mobile/copyright/wikipedia-wordmark-en.svg, the only difference is the wording. But with your file, the case is different - it changes the visual of the site. Does that make sense?

Can't it be made even if decision is made through community discussion?

As I said, changes that significantly change visual of a site needs to have an approval on the task.

Please create a phabricator ticket requesting the logo for https://tr.wikiquote.org/wiki/Anasayfa?useskinversion=2 and include Phabricator user Alex Hollender and myself as well as the SVG. The logo is used in various places so will need some assessment. Right now the project doesn't have a logo, https://tr.wikiquote.org/wiki/Anasayfa?useskinversion=2, https://tr.m.wikiquote.org/wiki/Anasayfa so that's definitely something that should be fixed.

Dobrý den. Mám téma na změnu a chci se poradit. Popíšu problém: Představte si, že jste úplný nováček, který dostal doporučení na MediaWiki. Otevřete hlavní stránku. Angličina. Děs. Umím jenom jiný jazyk než angličtinu a s bídou vím, že "language" je něco o jazycích a "english" je asi "anglicky". Hledám jak se stránka přepíná na můj jazyk. Asi mne moc nenapadne rolovat dolů na lištu s překlady (vlastně mne nic neláká rolovat), protože mne přímo táhne přepínač "English" vpravo nahoře. Klikám a dvojklikám. Ať dělám, co dělám, jiný jazyk než angličtinu z něj jednoduše nevydoluju. Pokud to bude člověk s jinou povahou než já, odchází hledat jinde.

Navrhuji: buď odstranit ten vlastně nefunkční přepínač a nějak přilákat potenciálního uživatele na spodní lištu s překlady

nebo toto vizuálně dobře uchopitelné tlačítko zprovoznit bez složitých jinakostí pouze s výčtem provozuschopných jazyků pro hlavní stránku.

Děkuji za výdrž nebo případnou radu na koho a jak se mám obrátit.
