How to build two help sites from one instance of MediaWiki

edit

Hi Applicationswhisperer, that is an interesting write-up you have there. I have been wondering for some time how to do it. Now that I know, I have another problem. Will Google treat this as redundant content when one can access the same article from two different URL address? — PM Poon 01:02, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

That might be a question for Google, or for someone more knowledgeable about web search engines. Applicationswhisperer 02:16, 20 June 2009 (UTC)Reply

searching different instances of wikis on the same server

edit

I, like you, don't have any sort of background in PHP or MySQL or Linux...so a lot of the installation/editing of extensions, etc., is extremely challenging to me.

I have one instance of MediaWiki running on an internal server at my company; one group in my company has been successfully using this as a Knowledge Base site for over a year now. Because of the success of the first group, other groups in the company are going to be joining the first group, and I'm investigating how several different instances can exist on the same server.

The most important piece of info I can't find is if it is possible to search all of the instances on a server for information. When we do a search for process information, it would be extremely helpful for someone to search for the info they need across all the Wiki instances. Is this possible within a wiki family? If so, how would I go about setting it up?

Thank you!!! Highlandemma 17:52, 10 May 2010 (UTC)Reply

Sorry, but I don't have a clue. Maybe ask the group at: MediaWiki-l -- MediaWiki announcements and site admin list
