User Interaction Consultation/Simplify information in the sidebar

Brief Description

edit

Review and consider information displayed in sidebar (on desktop), then collaborate and plan a refresh of the various links in the sidebar of each page to make information relevant, engaging, and informative to readers.

Problem it solves

edit
  1. The information on the sidebar could be overwhelming (requires validation), but I can imagine that people eventually get something similar to "sticker blindness" around the content displayed there.
  2. So many readers worldwide don't know how WP is created. By drawing attention to community tasks we may turn some readers into editors. There's an opportunity for conversion (though I don't think conversion is necessarily a goal)

Research certainly must be done to determine which links are most utilized, what is most confusing, etc (best to do this with non-logged in user data). Fortunately, lots of people use Wikipedia solely for reading, which offers a unique viewpoint - even more fortunately, we all know people who only read Wikipedia, so we can ask those users.

There's a possibility of redesigning info, simplifying and reducing links, or re-ordering so that the information contained is more easily discoverable.
