Hi,

February 24, 2009 marks the day that I have decided to jump into the mediawiki pool. I am the webmaster and founder of zamboanga.com and I believe it will be a struggle for me to switch gears.

Nevertheless, I believe that the mediawiki format will benefit the users of zamboanga.com. Hopefully, we will be able to interact with more of the "editor" types of individuals out there who have great content to contribute.

The MediaWiki support category has so much to offer. I hope that one day when I acquire more experience, I will be able to help as well.

  • March 3, 2009 Z-Wiki was started within Zamboanga.com later it migrated to it's own domain. Z-wiki.com. The wiki within zamboanga.com remained to specialize on the Philippines.
  • The version of the wiki I installed was MediaWiki 1.6.12
  • Yahoo hosted zamboanga.com.
  • I had to delete the .htaccess file from the server since yahoo does not allow this file. But even without this .htaccess file the wiki ran.
  • As of April 19, 2011 zamboanga.com left yahoo and moved in to a semi-dedicated server hosted by siteground. com
  • The site is running much faster with siteground.com
  • Today April 24, 2011 I decided to upgrade to MediaWiki 1.16.4
    • Lots of issues to consider. Extensions, Monobook.php, image prefix files. Old wiki saves images as Image:mypicture.jpg, the wiki will save the files as File:mypicture.jpg. Will this be compatible?
  • I searched but could not find any article on this within mediawiki.
  • December 14, 2014: I had to cancel out Z-wiki.com. It was just too much work. I kept the domain name and just created a re-direct to zamboanga.com
    • I have learned much about wiki coding since 2009 and zamboanga.com has grown. Since then we now have a wiki page for every single region, province, city, municipality, and barangay of the Philippines. To this date nobody in the world has this. I know that in time others will.
    • The wiki pages of each community serves as a portal to invite investors and tourists to the community. The wiki page of the community serves as a tool to enhance the exposure to the world.
    • We have minimal advertisement on each page. They are there to simply help pay for the cost of the domain name, host server and me (nope, I am free).
    • I want to thank the registered users of zamboanga.com who have been freely contributing pictures and information to update the wiki pages.
