Hello
editI'm probably best known on Wikinews, where I am a retired admin. My user page there has a fair amount of history you can wander around if you'd like.
Most of my interest in MediaWiki is in breaking it with complex templates. I use it internally at my workplace for professional purposes, as I'm sure many do.
My Extension
editI built Extension:UploadConvert, which is an ugly but functional way to run a utility against an upload that may provide a replacement file. It's meant to convert a file like a w:BMP file format image and convert it, upon upload, to a w:Portable Network Graphics format image. Other conversions are possible, such as audio transcoding.
My Other Extension
editI also built Extension:PipeTo that can be used to pass the parameters of a template to another template without knowing what they are. This is useful to create a general {{Row}} template (for instance) that can use subpages of the transcluding page to build the correct table. It enables polymorphic templates.
