New section-level "add an image" task

The current "add an image" task only suggests adding images to entirely unillustrated articles, and the images are meant to represent the article as a whole (the image is added to the lead section).

The Growth team plans to work on a new type of “add an image” task, which will provide image suggestions that are relevant to a particular section within an article. This section-level "add an image" task will be considered a more difficult task. Although it will be available to all newcomers, it will not be provided to newcomers as an initial “easy task”. There will be onboarding for the task, followed by a specific suggestion (that includes the reason why the image is suggested). If the newcomer decides “Yes”, to add the image, then they receive guidance on caption writing, before they write the caption, review the edit, and publish the edit, just like for existing article-level “add an image” task.

Similar to the article-level “add an image” task, the section-level task will be configurable by communities at Special:EditGrowthConfig.

Based on the screenshots, and this linked prototype, we would appreciate your feedback on the following:

  • Do you find anything confusing about the design or layout?
  • Is it clear to you that the image needs to relate to the article and the section as a whole?
  • Newcomers find the caption-writing stage of the article-level “add an image” task very difficult. Do you have any suggestions for how we could better onboard or help newcomers with caption writing?
  • Do you have any questions, concerns, or suggestions for improving this task?
