Hey Developers, Content translation is able to support sister project? (Likes Wikibooks/Wikivoy)

Thanks for your interest in the project, @MdsShakil.

For now, Content Translation is mainly focused on the translation of Wikipedia articles. The tool is able to process wikitext so it should be capable to work in different projects. However, dealing with complex pieces of content such as templates that are fragmented across languages still brings some challenges and we think it is best to improve in one project before opening the scope more. It makes sense to consider other projects but that is not in our immediate roadmap.

If there is a particular project where you expect support to be easy and particularly useful we want to hear to consider for future plans.

Meanwhile, you can use the tool ability to translate pages under the user namespace to translate contents from other projects. For example, copy contents from Wikivoyage into a Wikipedia page under your user page, translate that page with Content Translation and copy the results back. This is not ideal, but can be useful in some cases.

@Pginer-WMF specifically I have interest to use this tool in bnwikibooks. I made translation in bnwiki and bnwikibooks projects, content translation is help me lot in bnwiki. This year also we have desire to organize the Wiki Love Children's Contest, from the experience of Bengali Wikipedia, i can say that this tool is also very useful for competitors and newcomers.

@Pginer-WMF I am also interested to translate in bnwikibooks. In fact not only me, all other users of bnwikibooks also have the same desire. And absence of the translation software are decreasing the activism in bnwikibooks. Please do this for us! Thank you in advance.

Right now we are working on a significant re-architecturing effort for Content Translation. After the initial release of the mobile experience, we are working on supporting the translation of specific sections on desktop, and using this opportunity to provide a unified responsive dashboard that can be reused across both mobile and desktop. Until the tool is not unified and stabilized (i.e., the new dashboard evolve into becoming the only one) we cannot consider expanding to support new usecases.

This process will still take some months, but once it is completed it seems a good area to consider the expansion to other projects, and observing the interest of bnwikibooks I think we can consider it to be at the top of the list.

The community of Bangla Wikipedia has been very helpful since we started the initial research to support mobile translations. So I look forward to collaborate again and bnwikibooks seems a great opportunity. The only constraint right now is the timing since enabling on a project different than Wikipedia is something we have not done yet and we need to carefully review and look for any issues derived from assumptions about the project bing Wikipedia.
