I've just tried to submit my translation for an article, but it's telling me that I need to have had an account for 30 days AND done 500 edits of other articles. I'm a translator, I just want to translate, it seems crazy that I have to go around finding things to edit before I can do anything, is this right? I am not going to be able to do that.

Hi, first a big welcome! From what I see, there are only 3 contributions registered from this account - one registration on en.wikipedia.org where the user page is empty, and two for this claim. Due to the complexity of the system and for security reasons, there are some basic constraints to respect but 500 seems effectively a high value. If you are referring to mediawiki.org, translations are allowed in an anymous way (i.e. without being logged) and eventually corrected by rereaders. So plase consult the help pages and try to find if you have missed some step and precise if needed.
Translating into English? Sadly, that's the policy. The enwiki community wants to avoid the tool being abused, so they've got to check if the person can be trusted. Opinions about this system should be submitted at the village pump.
I've heard that you are still able to publish it as a user draft, so I suggest you try that? (see Topic:Vjny0bcxoumk2akk)
