Collaborative translation

  1. I would like to easily share to let other people help me with the translation of my article. As with source code I should be able to track the automatic "pull request"/merge suggestion of contributions. Or maybe just only rollback (probably if I leave open to anyone to join to/edit my WIP).
  2. I would like to easily access to a list of English articles people one to translate to my main other language (Spanish in my case).
  3. I would like to be able to set alist of "articles I want to translate to my main language".
    1. Search for people who wan't to translate the same articles I want to translate to work as a team.

I firmly believe this features on Wikipedia translate tool would make a huge impact on al those secondary languages, even more for all those almos forgotten.

Thanks for the feedback, @Pabloab. Some comments about the specific points below:

1) One important consideration about translations is that you are working on a potentially changing article. That is, as you work on a translation the source article may change, and the page you wanted to create may have been created by someone else already.

Content translation focused on supporting the creation of the initial version of the article (in a similar way that a user creates a new page), and we want to encourage to publish early and continue working on the article with the usual tools. So we need to be careful for content not to get stuck for long in the translation stage. We plan to support some basic support for users to be able to translate the same articles as well as expanding existing pages, which will provide more flexibility while keeping the regular wiki pages as the central element for collaboration.

2 and 3) We have plans to better support these kind of community coordination. So it is great to hear that this is perceived as an area with good potential. Some communities keep categories for articles that need translation, but I agree that Content translation could help to better surface those needs. Currently we integrate a recommendation system and provide some basic support to create campaigns that we plan to improve in the future. Making it easy to keep translations for later will be a first step in that direction.

Thanks for your interest in the tool and the relevant suggestions!
