Not displaying the 'main page' title
How did you guys manage to have the Main page NOT display the 'Main page' title? I would like to use the design of the mediawiki.org Main page on another Wiki, which worked great except for the page title, it's still there. have looked and searched for a solution, but no dice. is this a code edit?
I too am curious how this was accomplished. Any input? Should this question be asked in Talk:MediaWiki also? -- Suki 14:08, 5 May 2007 (UTC)
Which part of the Common.js does this?
The css method
The CSS way (to avoid javascript) is to add something like this in Common.css instead: [[1]]
.page-Main_Page h1.firstHeading { display: none; }
"What is a wiki?" Change
"What is a wiki?" Should I not change to each country Catahan the link ahead though the character string is not cared with keeping things as they are when this thinking the thing when displaying it to be displayed by other languages other than English?
(I was Japanese, and writing English used the translation software by the one not good. I am sorry in a strange word. ) 124.210.245.64 09:49, 21 February 2008 (UTC)
- I'm afraid your translation software is not very good, but let me take a guess - do you mean that the link destination for 'what is a wiki?' should link to the 'wiki' article in the wikipedia of the appropriate language? That would be easy to do if the destination article was always called 'wiki', just by substituting the appropriate language code. Is that a good way to do this? (and if I've misunderstood, please let me know what you were asking!) --HappyDog 00:22, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- Yes.
- I think that it is preferable to link with the Wikipedia each language version.Thank you for the answer. ::124.210.245.64 07:40, 13 March 2008 (UTC)
One more sitelink
Could we add a sitelink5 to link to Corporate use; I request this because mediawiki.org lacks of corporate-friendly langage to present itself.--almaghi 09:35, 19 June 2009 (UTC)
'''{{Main page/include|sitelink4|{{{1|}}}}}''' | '''{{Main page/include|sitelink5|{{{1|}}}}}'''

- Actually I have this request, but pointing to How to contribute. Currently that page is only linked from the outdated "New opportunities" block (that I want to propose we get rid of, but that is another topic). I have prepared this: Template:Main page/sitelink5.--Qgil (talk) 23:01, 28 December 2012 (UTC)
"originally for use on Wikipedia"
Why not change the link to go to w:Wikipedia, the Wikipedia article on Wikipedia, rather than the multilingual Wikipedia main portal, http://www.wikipedia.org? Leucosticte (talk) 14:55, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
- Done, see Template:Main page/intro. I checked a bunch of translations and they were all linking to the corresponding Wikipedia project in their language. So yes, why not doing the same here in English. Good idea, thank you.--Qgil (talk) 19:51, 14 January 2014 (UTC)
Why protected
Why not let the autoconfirmed editors, or at least those in the Editors group, edit the template? Then redesigns could avoid going through this kind of process and we might see better outcomes. Bold, revert, discuss and darwikinism are the tried-and-true methods of bringing about high-quality pages. Leucosticte (talk) 20:04, 26 February 2014 (UTC)
Aesthetics of the Download button
Could the download button be modified to be a mw-ui-button
? Currently it looks dated and clumsy IMO. Suzukaze-c (talk) 00:01, 27 September 2017 (UTC)
Error on home page in Brazilian Portuguese
The page in Brazilian Portuguese is outdated and missing templates--Eduaddad (talk) 01:44, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
- Because of major change of the layout of Main Page, translation organization and contents changed. You need to translate new phrases. You can do it by clicking translation link at top of this template page. --wargo (talk) 19:10, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
Display preferred language
Currently, regardless of opened MediaWiki/<LL> it display man page in language set in preferencjes. I found code which do this but i would ask @Shirayuki: it is expected, intentional behaviour? --wargo (talk) 19:10, 14 April 2019 (UTC)
