Highlights
edit- The Wikimedia Hackathon 2023 took place in Athens (Greece) from 19–21 May 2023. See the list of projects that were worked on at the hackathon.

What's new
edit- The RealMe extension was deployed on Wikimedia wikis. It allows marking your Mastodon user profile link as verified.
- The unmaintained and dysfunctional GWToolset extension got removed from Wikimedia Commons.
- Bot operators, tool maintainers, gadget and script writers, and other developers should schedule time in the coming months to test and update their code for IP masking. The new policy and an associated FAQ contain information about which users are allowed to access the IP addresses of temporary accounts. IP masking will not be deployed to any content wiki until at least October 2023.
- mediawiki.org is now hosted on the Mediawiki-on-Kubernetes infrastructure.
Conferences and meetups
edit- The Wikimania Hackathon will happen on 16–19 August 2023 in Singapore. Registration for Wikimania 2023 is open! Register for the in-person event before July 16th or for the virtual event anytime.
- WikiConference North America 2023 planned for 9–12 November 2023 in Ontario, Canada is currently accepting program submissions for various categories including Technology. You can submit your proposals until July 15th.
Community metrics (Phabricator and Gerrit)
edit- Number of tasks created in Q2/2023: 7166
- Number of tasks closed in Q2/2023: 7151
- Number of different people who created tasks in Q2/2023: 1028
- Number of different people who closed tasks in Q2/2023: 490
- 376 people wrote patches (138 of them being volunteers) in Q2/2023.
