Image Suggestions
editHello, imo this is a great idea.
Just one question: will it be possible to have this opted in our out through the Preferences/notifications ? Thanks. Lotje (talk) 11:59, 7 July 2023 (UTC)
- Hello @Lotje, thank you for your interest in this feature. Yes, it is indeed possible to opt in or out of image suggestions through Preferences > Notifications > Image suggestions. However, please note that the settings apply to image suggestions as a whole, and currently, there isn't an option to opt-out on a more specific level(for example, only page level, not section-level). you can learn more on Image suggestion page Udehb-WMF (talk) 09:14, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
- @Udehb-WMF: , thank you so much for the extra information. It will surely be a helpful extra in the future. Lotje (talk) 10:58, 10 July 2023 (UTC)
Question (interesting initiative!)
editThis looks really interesting. Lots of Wikipedia articles don't have any or too few images included when there's some useful good-quality/representative image(s) available.
I have two questions or concerns:
- Does it use Wikidata? I think media set on the linked item is what would be the best suggestion; see m:Community Wishlist/Wishes/Suggest media set in Wikidata items for their Wikipedia articles. It may also be the easiest suggestion to retrieve and there would already be many of them.
- I think notifications will be annoying and the wrong approach, e.g. there could quickly be too many of them and it buries other notifications. I think it would be better to show these in the Watchlist or in some Tasks dashboard that I suggested here.
