From this page it is not clear to me whether I'm paid as a mentor or not.
Talk:Outreachy/Mentors
@So9q - hello and apologies for the very late response!
The time commitment for mentors is much lower than it is for interns:
- Committing to 5-10 hours a week during the six-week application period to review applicant contributions
- Committing to 5 hours a week during the three month internship period to work with the Outreachy intern
More details are available on this page: https://www.outreachy.org/mentor/#mentor, but in answer to your direct question, no, the mentors do not get paid for their time.
It might be obvious but I do not know How do exactly I request for permissions to be added to a restricted group Outreachy Mentors? I am already a watcher there. @SSethi (WMF)
@Zblace You can ignore this for now. As the application period will open shortly, and we are still discussing the project, we no longer need to keep the project private and restricted to a specific group.
I have to say that looking back at the process, it is more complex then I expected and somewhat simpler documentation *(if not hand-holding and mentoring new mentors, as they are likely also busy with other work) should be planned for future ;-) Update: Think that some of the instructions are made for what was typical project, but are confusing if project is further away in spectrum from this average project profile (especially if focus is not on code). @SSethi (WMF) if this page is to be revised in 2023 keep me posted.
@Zblace I made a bunch of changes today to Outreach programs/Recommended steps for participants and Template:Recommended Steps to Participate for Outreach Programs Mentors. For some points where it made sense, I tried to keep documentation projects in mind. If you could highlight certain areas in the guide that still need improvement, let me know and I will try to fix it :)
@SSethi (WMF) will try to check in detail later in the week.
