Usual cross-wiki approaches

Just dumping some links here so that I don't lose them:

Add a picture

edit

I would like us to add image adding to the choices. I have done this with newbies and people get an instant feeling of making a big change to an article when they add an image to an article that doesn't have one. They also respond well to the phrase "our computers suggest that one of these images might be suitable to illustrate this article, but we need a human to choose which one if any would be right". This also works well for getting tasks for many non-English Wikipedias as the obvious opportunities for image adding include "an article on your Wikipedia which does not have an image but which has an intrawiki link to a category on Commons" and "an article on your Wikipedia which does not have an image but which has an intrawiki link to version(s) in other languges which do have pictures from commons. See https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/User:WereSpielChequers/image_adding for a third route and a workflow. 05:48, 23 November 2013 (UTC)

Some such experiment with JavaScript tools to add wikimarkup would probably provide valuable lessons for the later Multimedia team work in the area. --Nemo 07:32, 23 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
It's not a bad idea, and I think it could be worth trying instead of less popular options like fixing articles tagged as confusing or vague. In any case, we're moving away from using the version with the three options, in favor of the last version tested. It's described now in the document under "New experience". Maybe someone should rewrite this so that it's not Wikipedia-specific, and document how (in what parts/modules) it is Wikipedia-specific and how they work. --Gryllida 13:01, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

The part based on maintenance categories (copy-editing currently) can work on any wiki where that workflow makes sense (e.g. Wikivoyage probably does); it just needs customization for the relevant category. The part that gives suggestions based on your last edit probably would already work on something like Wikivoyage (or any wiki where the content namespace is general text, and most pages are potentially editable) unmodified. Gryllida Per the title, this is not focused on non-Wikipedias. This is intentional. If someone wants to design (or adapt this design) to other projects they are welcome to do so, but the extension is only deployed to Wikipedias. Steven Walling (WMF) • talk 23:02, 21 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
Could it perhaps be a beta feature there with a note explaining how to design it for the relevant project? --Gryllida 08:33, 22 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
