Talk:Language screenshots
How to use this
editVikassy, I'd like to update Help:VisualEditor/User guide during the next month. This Thursday, most of the screenshots will need to be redone. (The new ones are already here, but will reach the Wikipedias in 48 hours.) Can you tell me what the best way to do this is? I expect them to change slightly several times in the coming months. I'd like them to update automatically afterwards it at all possible. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 18:06, 22 July 2014 (UTC)
- Hello Whatamidoing (WMF), great to know that the screenshots are redone. You can update the screenshots in the English VisualEditor, I will update my browser tests accordingly(which automatically takes screenshots in different languages). You would have to do run(by clicking on "Build now") the jenkins job, after which the images are updated in the User guide. You need to login (using gerrit credentials) and might have to get permission from Hashar to get permission to build(or in other words see the link "Build now"). --Vikassy (talk) 06:07, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't understand how that will work, Vikassy. Normally, when I take a screenshot, it's just a plain old screenshot. How does your code know which part of the screen to take the screenshot from? And if it knows how to take a picture of the screen in German, then why not in English, too?
- Sorry for late reply, I am not feeling well, hence was away from my laptop. I have hardcoded the HTML elements which needs to be cropped. The english screenshots are for my reference, so that I come to know what exactly to crop. Later the screenshots will update automatically, even for the english. --Vikassy (talk) 07:21, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- I don't have gerrit credentials; I'm not a dev. Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 17:11, 25 July 2014 (UTC)
- You can create one here. Let me know if you want any help regarding that :) --Vikassy (talk) 15:16, 28 July 2014 (UTC)
- Whatamidoing - have you created a Gerrit account? You should have one even if you aren't doing any coding :) --Amir E. Aharoni (talk) 15:33, 29 July 2014 (UTC)

Exporting to other wikis
editI'm having problems with Help:VisualEditor/User guide. I need to get the translated (and original) version off MediaWiki and on to other projects. When I export the pages, they all have wikitext lines like this one:
[[{{Language screenshot URL|name=VisualEditor_toolbar}}|frameless|center|800px|alt=Screenshot of the VisualEditor toolbar]]
which doesn't work, because none of the other projects have a copy of this template. Is there a way to fix this so that the file name itself is being used in the help page? Whatamidoing (WMF) (talk) 00:07, 9 October 2014 (UTC)
Restart job for first two screenshots on Help:VisualEditor/User guide
edit@ESanders (WMF) hello! :) I have found that File:VisualEditor_edit_tab-ru.png is outdated and File:VisualEditor - Section edit links-ru.png not exist. Is it possible to recreate this two screenshots or recreate all screens on that page? Iniquity (talk) 20:19, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
- Moved to Screenshot auto-updating. Another thread. Iniquity (talk) 20:23, 19 July 2020 (UTC)
