editProject: Improving Wikimedia's onboarding processes and documentation standards
Participant: User:Gbahdeyboh
Proposal: phab:T255360
Report: Wikimedia and Google Season of Docs 2020
Mentors: User:SRodlund (WMF), User:APaskulin (WMF)
"My proposal was broadly scoped to two things: Improving the onboarding processes, and improving documentation standards. The idea was that: If all new documents use these templates as a guide, they would find it easier to create documentation. If all documentation that is being created/updated use these templates as a guide, there will be consistency across WMF’s documentation formats. If all documentation that was created (which is expected to use these templates) undergoes this structured review process, over time, the documentation standards will be greatly improved." - Wikimedia and Google Season of Docs 2020
- Created templates for tutorials, API docs, and more!
- Created a process for documentation review

editProject: Consolidate MediaWiki Help Documentation
Participant: User:Network-charles
Proposal: phab:T358605
Report: Wikimedia Foundation GSOD 2024 Project Report
Case study: Season of Docs/2024/Case study
Mentors: User:APaskulin (WMF), User:OOnifade-WMF
"MediaWiki.org is the documentation wiki for MediaWiki. Before MediaWiki.org existed, MediaWiki documentation was stored on a different wiki: Meta-Wiki (also called Meta). Since MediaWiki.org was established as the official wiki for MediaWiki documentation, most MediaWiki documentation pages on Meta have been moved to MediaWiki.org. However, there were still some pages on Meta that contain MediaWiki documentation. The goal of this project was to review the remaining MediaWiki documentation on Meta and migrate it to MediaWiki.org, reviewing the content for accuracy, organizing it in relation to other docs, and re-writing the content where necessary to comply with licensing restrictions. Completing this project has enabled users of MediaWiki to find the information they need and more effectively contribute to the wikis they care about." - Season of Docs/2024/Case study
- De-duplicated existing MediaWiki help documentation between Meta-Wiki and Mediawiki.org
- Created new content on MediaWiki.org based on existing help pages on Meta-Wiki
- Organized the landing page for remaining help content on Meta-Wiki
