activate translation
editI added translation-tags to a page (Help:Bad title). What should I do to inform a translation administrator to activate the translation function? I'm working on the code in task. Davidmuecke96 (talk) 17:33, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- It's ok to just strike them as you did. Nemo 17:33, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- thanks :) Davidmuecke96 (talk) 17:33, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- I worked on Cross-site scripting(https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Cross-site_scripting). I hope this page is better. I don't get what I should do with 'langcat'? Davidmuecke96 (talk) 17:33, 15 December 2013 (UTC)
- Just what its documentation says, click the link above Nemo 17:33, 15 December 2013 (UTC)

Preparing pages
editHello! I will be preparing some pages for migration.
Currently I am working on Help:Namespaces.
Thanks, Alex MegaAlex (talk) 18:16, 4 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks, approved: I made a couple edits, check them. Please also update the list. Nemo 14:29, 28 December 2013 (UTC)
- Translation copied to Help:Namespaces.
- I have prepared Manual:What_is_MediaWiki? for migration. MegaAlex (talk) 09:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Ok, marked Nemo 14:05, 29 December 2013 (UTC)
- Help:Namespaces is done.
- Developer hub is prepared. MegaAlex 11:47, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Hmm, there are lots of links there that should ideally use Special:MyLanguage but I'm not sure how to do it cleanly and without multiplying translation units, so I'll let it be: approved! Now to the importing. :) Nemo 11:47, 30 December 2013 (UTC)
- Translations imported to Developer hub. However I wasn't able to make the {{Hubs}} template translatable.
- Compatibility is prepared for migration.
- Thanks! MegaAlex 09:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Please fix the langcat. Nemo 09:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Oops, fixed. :) MegaAlex 09:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Please fix the langcat. Nemo 09:22, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Compatibility is done.
- Help:Patrolled edits is prepared.
- Thanks! MegaAlex 11:15, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Thanks. All the {{MW version}} templates need not be translated and there's no reason to split "To mark an edit as patrolled" from the rest of the sentence/points of the list. Nemo 11:15, 31 December 2013 (UTC)
- Fixed. :) MegaAlex 11:15, 31 December 2013 (UTC)

- Unicode normalization considerations and Version are prepared. Thank you! :) MegaAlex 15:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks for Help:Magic words. A few things:
- I'm not sure it's necessary to translate "1.5+" and the like, most languages would leave it as is. Perhaps we can leave it untranslated and see later whether to add it? Unless one of the translation pages already needs it.
- In the ns table there are some <translate>or</translate> and some "or" not in translation tags. You should tag all or none. It seems a bit silly to translate "or" so many time (and lego sentences are not pretty), maybe we can just use / there and avoid translating, or something like that? Or at worst use a template.
- You don't need Special:MyLanguage for links to Special: pages.
- Here you should leave the small and br outside the translate tag: <small>{{warning}} If you don't input numbers in the exact format required, don't expect any reliable output, especially on non-English wikis.</small><br/> (when markup is not part of the sentence it can always be left out). Nemo 15:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- The "+" is translated is some Asian languages I think (for example Help:Magic_words/ja).
- What about the "or"-s, what do you think the best solution for that is?
- As for the internal links, the page is WIP and I was going to add them today. :)
- Thanks for the review! MegaAlex 15:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Ok, then please use Template:MW version with the new
compact
parameter instead of all those numbers. - Let's try untranslated slahes "/" instead of the "or" for now.
- There are still some links to a non-existing w:Special:MyLanguage etc. Nemo 15:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- I think that it should be OK now.
- Thanks! MegaAlex 15:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)
- Looks good enough, well done. 100 translation units saved. :) Marked. Nemo 15:38, 1 January 2014 (UTC)

- Thanks for Help:Magic words. A few things:
- Help:Magic words is done.
- User hub is prepared for migration.
- Thanks! :) MegaAlex 08:05, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Stellar work at Help:Magic words!!!
- Marked. The links here are reasonably short and stable, but when they get longer (as with other markup) you may consider using tvar syntax. Nemo 08:05, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- Thanks! :)
- User hub is done.
- Sysadmin hub is prepared.
- As for the
tvar
syntax - could you please give me an example on how it should be used for links? :) MegaAlex 16:22, 3 January 2014 (UTC)- You can see an example at m:Tech/News/2014/02.
- Let me know if you plan to use it in sysadmin hub too (translating so many links makes updates a bit hard). Nemo 16:22, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- I have added
tvar
s to Sysadmin hub.
- Thanks! MegaAlex 16:22, 3 January 2014 (UTC)
- I have added
- Those 3 pages are done.

Translation of the deployment pages (MediaWiki 1.23/wmf11)
edit
These pages have the same structure, so I created a translatable template. I have in the idea of making it auto-translatable in the user language; I don’t think it is currently possible, but I’m working on on Meta. ({{TNT}} is in the page language, and Commons uses {{Fallback}} and {{int:lang}} to achieve that, but there could be way of doing this entirely in Lua.)
If there are no objections, I will remove the translation requests on the deployment pages and use the template; so these will be only in English until the auto-translation is activated. ~ Seb35 [^_^] 20:27, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
- Yes. Actually, I doubt those pages need to be translatable at all any longer. Nowadays the announcements are done via m:Tech/News for the broader public and wikitech:Deployment highlights for the techies. Nemo 20:27, 17 January 2014 (UTC)
Status
edit
We currently have 5k categories and 5k translation pages left to migrate, according to Category:Languages pages. That's not bad at all! Nemo 09:11, 20 December 2014 (UTC)
Migrated pages in dynamic list
edit
Manual:$wgTitle/pt-br and Manual:$wgDefaultUserOptions/it appear in the dynamic list and Category:Languages pages, but both are now managed by the Translate extension. I tried purging those pages and this page, but they still appear. Any ideas why, and how to fix this? John Vandenberg (talk) 15:54, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
- It's phabricator:T48716 as always. Nemo 16:09, 22 March 2016 (UTC)
