unbidden subscription
editI received an unbidden email saying, "You have been subscribed to the 'Chart Project' newsletter by an administrator." I finally found this page, and I followed the unsubscription link, but can anybody tell me by whom and why I was subscribed to a newsletter I've never heard of nor received? Also, is there any way to double-check or confirm that I'm no longer subscribed to this mystery newsletter? Fourthords (talk) 22:28, 7 July 2024 (UTC)
- Admins can see a list of subscribers and manually subscribe people. As an admin I can confirm your no longer on it. There's no logging as to who did the subscriber changes, but it's almost certainly SGrabarczuk (WMF), and I had to guess they subscribed everyone who ever posted to Extension talk:Graph/Plans, including myself, and I also unsubscribed myself. * Pppery * it has begun 04:46, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Ah, excellent, thanks so much! I see in the archives where I posted a comment back in March, but that'd been at the behest of somebody at the English Wikipedia. I never would've connected a "Chart Project" with the mapping malfunction we had last year! Thanks again for your help! Fourthords (talk) 20:06, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
- Exactly, this is what happened @Pppery. I've added everyone who took part in discussions about the future of Graph, which was slightly more than 50 users. I figured that in this case, it'd be better to overcommunicate than to be too quiet because this project so important. Normally, I don't add people to newsletters; in fact, this was the only case since I was hired that I decided to do so. @Fourthords, I'm sorry to hear that receiving this email and getting to this page was confusing to you. - My input here back in March was at the behest of another editor at the English Wikipedia. So my confusion stemmed from (a) not remembering that, and (b) not connecting "Chart Project" with "that mapping malfunction we had on enwp a couple of years". No worries, and thanks for the clarification! Fourthords (talk) 20:06, 8 July 2024 (UTC)
