Yes, wikidata is a central database powered by mediawiki to store data open for use under CCO public domain licence.

Hello I am new to mediawiki and i would like to know if it is any good.
The content on How does MediaWiki work? seems to overlap a lot with this page. Also, How does MediaWiki work? doesn't actually explain how the software work - it explains what the software is. I recognize these were originally intended for different audiences - but I think with a little effort they can serve both purposes.

(1) Which kind of page should create in this wiki? (2) Is there a relation between Media Wiki and main Wikipedia?
The article says, "MediaWiki is a free server-based software…". As you can't have "a sand", likewise you cannot have "a software". Both words are uncountable. You can have "a software program" or "a software product". Alternatively, you can simply remove the article "a": MediaWiki is free server-based software….
